Springer HRs power Astros

George Springer homered twice and tied a career high with five RBI as Houston rocked Aaron Sanchez in his return from the disabled list, propelling the Astros to a 12-2 win over the Blue Jays in Toronto.

Springer hit his 26th and 27th homers; the All-Star outfielder had four hits for the Astros (59-28). Carlos Correa extended MLB’s longest active hitting streak to a career-high 15.

Brewers 9, Yankees 4 — Jesus Aguilar homered twice and matched a Brewers record with seven RBI, including a tiebreakin­g grand slam in the seventh inning that sent Milwaukee past skidding New York at Yankee Stadium.

The highlight for the hosts was Aaron Judge’s major league-leading 30th home run, which broke Joe DiMaggio’s Yankees rookie record set in 1936.

Twins 9, Orioles 6 — In Minneapoli­s, Kennys Vargas had three hits, including a big two-run double in the fifth inning, hours after being recalled from the minors to help lead Minnesota past Baltimore.

The Twins — who also signed veteran hurler Bartolo Colon to a minor league deal — rallied from a 6-0 hole to send Baltimore to its fifth straight defeat despite Manny Machado homering twice and collecting four hits.

Indians 11, Tigers 2 — Carlos Carrasco handled Detroit’s lineup for the second time in a week — striking out a season-high 11 and pulling off a rare nine-pitch, three-strikeout inning — and Lonnie Chisenhall hit a two-run homer, leading host Cleveland over Detroit.

Rangers 10, Angels 0 — In Arlington, Texas, Cole Hamels threw 72⁄3 shutout innings and Adrian Beltre’s three-run homer highlighte­d a five-run second inning as Texas blanked Los Angeles.

Mariners 7, Athletics 2 — Nelson Cruz hit his 300th home run and drove in five, James Paxton (7-3) allowed two hits in seven innings and Seattle beat visiting Oakland.

Rockies 12, White Sox 4 — Nolan Arenado homered and drove in five runs, German Marquez tossed seven strong innings, and Colorado’s slumbering offense awoke to pound visiting Chicago.

Dodgers 4, Royals 1 — Yasiel Puig homered, Chase Utley notched his 1,000th career RBI, and NL West-leading Los Angeles beat visiting Kansas City for its fourth in a row. The Dodgers improved to a major league-best 37-11 at home.

Nationals 5, Braves 4 — Daniel Murphy’s RBI single in the 10th inning capped a rally from 4-1 down in the ninth as host Washington beat Atlanta.

Diamondbac­ks 6, Reds 3— In Phoenix, Zack Greinke (11-4) threw seven scoreless innings and Paul Goldschmid­t hit his 20th homer to help Arizona beat Cincinnati and quickly rebound from being swept by the Dodgers.

Earlier, high school righthande­r Hunter Greene, the second overall pick in last month’s amateur draft, agreed to a minor league contract with Cincinnati. His $7.23 million signing bonus is the highest since constraint­s on draft spending began in 2012.

Cubs 6, Pirates 1 — Kris Bryant hit two homers and drove in four runs, Anthony Rizzo went deep and host Chicago beat Pittsburgh.

Mets 6, Cardinals 5 — Jose Reyes and Jay Bruce hit solo shots to help Jacob deGrom win his fifth straight decision, as New York won in St. Louis.

Marlins 6, Giants 1— Giancarlo Stanton hit his 24th home run to back another strong start by Dan Straily as Miami won in San Francisco.

Padres 4, Phillies 3 — Austin Hedges hit a pair of solo homers and had a tiebreakin­g sacrifice fly in the ninth, Jose Pirela also went deep and visiting San Diego handed lowly Philadelph­ia its 22nd one-run loss of the season.
