Jay-walk lifts Miggy, Tigers

Miguel Cabrera walked with the bases loaded in the 11th inning yesterday, giving the Tigers a 6-5 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays yesterday in Detroit.

The Jays open a fourgame series with the Red Sox tonight at Fenway.

With the score 5-all, Alex Avila was walked by Jeff Beliveau (1-1) leading off the 11th and advanced on Jose Iglesias’ sacrifice.

Lucas Harrell relieved, Ian Kinsler lined out and Nicholas Castellano­s reached on a Josh Donaldson error to put runners at the corners.

Justin Upton walked to load the bases and Harrell then walked Cabrera.

Angels 4, Rays 3 — Pinchhitte­r C.J. Cron connected for a tiebreakin­g, two-run homer in the eighth inning and Los Angeles escaped a jam in the ninth to hold off Tampa Bay in Anaheim, Calif.

Trailing 4-2, the Rays scored once in the ninth and loaded the bases with one out. Bud Norris got Tim Beckham to ground into a double play for his 14th save, ending the Rays’ four-game winning streak.

Royals 4, Rangers 3 — Right fielder Shin-Soo Choo lost Lorenzo Cain’s routine fly in the sun, and the ball glanced off his glove for an RBI single with two outs in the ninth inning that lifted Kansas City over Texas.

The Royals snapped a five-game losing streak, and also ended a 12-game skid against the Rangers.

Astros 5, Twins 3 — Mike Fiers struck out a seasonhigh 11 over seven strong innings and Nori Aoki had two hits and two RBI to help host Houston top Minnesota.

Athletics 7, Indians 3 — Cleveland starter Trevor Bauer got just two outs in a four-run first inning and matched the shortest start of his big league career as host Oakland handled the Indians to complete a surprising sweep of the AL Central leaders.

Mariners 7, White Sox 6 — Nelson Cruz homered on a 3-0 pitch to lead off the 10th inning and visiting Seattle edged Chicago for a threegame sweep.

National League

Nationals 14, Reds 4 — Daniel Murphy hit two of Washington’s five home runs and had five RBI to lead the way in a rout of host Cincinnati.

The Nationals also acquired relievers Ryan Madson and Sean Doolittle from Oakland for pitcher Blake Treinen and a pair of prospects.

Dodgers 3, Marlins 2 — Justin Turner homered and singled to increase his batting average to .374, and visiting Los Angeles extended its winning streak to nine games by nipping Miami.

Rockies 13, Mets 4 — Ian Desmond provided an instant spark in his return from the disabled list, and Nolan Arenado hit one of Colorado’s three homers during a rout of Steven Matz and host New York.

Braves 7, Diamondbac­ks 1— Matt Kemp hit a threerun homer and Brandon Phillips doubled three times, leading host Atlanta over reeling Arizona for a three-game sweep.

Phillies 5, Brewers 2 — Rookie Nick Williams hit his first career grand slam before Philadelph­ia’s bullpen escaped two late-game jams for a win over host Milwaukee.

Pirates 4, Cardinals 3 — Adam Frazier’s game-ending single capped a two-run rally in the ninth inning that lifted host Pittsburgh over St. Louis.

Padres 7, Giants 1 — Hector Sanchez and Corey Spangenber­g each hit a three-run home run off Jeff Samardzija and host San Diego thumped San Francisco.

Cubs 8, Orioles 0 — Jose Quintana dazzled in his debut for visiting Chicago, striking out a season-high 12 in seven sharp innings to beat Baltimore for a threegame sweep.
