Spooner, B’s millions apart
Arbitration process continues
The Bruins and Ryan Spooner will enter their NHL arbitration hearing almost $2 million apart in their proposed salary figures that were exchanged yesterday.
Spooner is seeking $3.85 million, while the team is offering $2 million, according to Sportsnet.
After notching 11 goals and 28 assists last season, the forward was a healthy scratch in the final two playoff games in a first-round series loss to the Ottawa Senators. He has been with the Bruins since 2012-13 and has averaged 44 points over the past two seasons.
The sides could still reach a deal ahead of the hearing before the arbitrator. . . .
Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Brian Dumoulin has turned his steady play for the Stanley Cup champions into a new contract. Dumoulin and the team agreed to a six-year deal that will run through 2022-23 and will pay him an average of $4.1 million per year. The 25-year-old Dumoulin had three goals and 11 assists during Pittsburgh’s run to the Cup this spring and hasn’t missed a playoff game during the team’s sprint to back-to-back titles. . . .
The Nashville Predators signed forward Austin Watson to a three-year $3.3 million deal keeping him under contract through 2019-20. The 25-year-old forward is coming off his best season yet, when he had a career high with five goals and seven assists in 77 games for the Western Conference winners.
Center Ryan Johansen is Nashville’s lone restricted free agent awaiting a new deal.
NBA: A Rose among Cavs’ thorns
Free agent Derrick Rose agreed to sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers, a person familiar with the decision told The Associated Press. Rose, a former NBA MVP who has battled knee injuries, will get a oneyear contract at the veteran’s minimum of $2.1 million, according to the source.
The Cavaliers, who have had a bumpy ride since losing in the NBA Finals that included the departure of general manager David Griffin, removed the interim tag and named Koby Altman as full-time GM. Altman has his work cut out: Kyrie Irving recently asked to be traded and LeBron James is heading into his final season under contract. . . .

Soccer: UEFA hits Bailly with ban
UEFA suspended Manchester United defender Eric Bailly from the season-opening Super Cup game against Real Madrid and a Champions League group-stage game. A disciplinary panel imposed a three-match ban for violent conduct on Bailly, who was sent off late in United’s Europa League semifinal, second-leg game against Celta Vigo in May. He missed a win against Ajax in the Europa League final when serving the first game of the ban. . . .
