Issa hails Trump team for staying on message
U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), on Boston Herald Radio’s Morning Meeting yesterday, defended the Trump administration amid the ongoing Russia probe:
Q: Collusion is not a crime. Maybe it’s a political sin, but there’s no crime.
A: There are two things you have to understand that I think are significant. First of all, Jared (Kushner) could’ve ducked it.
He did just the opposite ... he, Donald (Trump) Jr., they’re all leaning into this in a way that reminds me of (President Ronald) Reagan and Iran Contra.
Ronald Reagan said, “Let’s get the truth out and let the cards fall where they may.” That’s exactly what we really need to have, and the fact is he did a good job. He explained in absolute, not ifs ands or but sentences, what he did or didn’t do.
And in this case, he didn’t collude, he didn’t get any money from them, it wasn’t what the liberals have been claiming ... I was over at the White House yesterday and I had the honor of working with the new communications director (Anthony Scaramucci).
Thirty minutes into the meeting in walks Ivanka (Trump), and was she talking about Jared testifying? No. She was talking about the communications message of the president’s agenda and what they have to get done.
It was so uplifting to see somebody who stays focused on the vision of this president and the administration, and it’s not going to change, no matter how much people try to distract it with allegations of something that even if true, wouldn’t be illegal.
Q: Do you think it’s a mistake for Kushner to be questioned behind closed doors?
A: One thing I know about lawmakers, that includes Senate and House, is they behave poorly behind closed doors, but they behave worse when you get them in front of the camera. And so, when you want to get in and out without an unreasonable and torturous time and you want to tell the truth and you want to answer people’s questions truthfully and completely, the truth is you want a closed-door hearing.
Hillary Clinton demanded a full, open, let’s go as long as we can where I talk endlessly and not answer, because I want the record to somehow make me a martyr. ... Jared’s just the opposite. He’s not running for office.
He and Ivanka gave up wonderful private lives to come in and help the president. All he wants to do is get back to some of the key things he’s working on. Both in foreign policy, especially in the Middle East, but also reinventing government. Making it more efficient making it more organized for success.
That’s the reason he came into government.
