Lynch on board with Trump’s ACA take

U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch agreed with President Trump’s assessment that the Affordable Care Act in its current form is in trouble hours after the Senate narrowly rejected the latest GOP attempt at repealing former President Barack Obama’s signature legislative achievement.

“President Trump is right in one sense — if he just lets this situation exist long enough, it is unsustainable and it will collapse,” Lynch said yesterday during an appearance on Boston Herald Radio’s “Morning Meeting” show. “You’ll see hospitals closing. You see already a lot of hospitals are merging.”

Trump took to Twitter just before 2:30 a.m. to blast the three Republicans — Sens. John McCain, Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski — who he said “let the American people down” by voting against the so-called “skinny repeal” bill.

“As I said from the beginning, let Obamacare implode, then deal. Watch!,” Trump tweeted.

Lynch predicted that the months ahead will be marked by “tension” in the medical field.

“At some point we’ve got to come to our sense here and try to fix this thing,” he said, adding a full-blown collapse might force Congress to act.

“Sometimes the only time we really respond to something is when we are in crisis,” Lynch said. “We saw that with the housing crisis and other things like that. I would sure hate to get to that point, but we are rapidly approaching it.”
