Another Cowboy gets suspended

-

A third Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman will miss the start of the season due to suspension.

The NFL said yesterday that defensive end Damontre’ Moore was suspended without pay for the first two regular season games for violating the league’s substanceabuse policy.

Defensive end David Irving and defensive tackle Randy Gregory already were suspended.

Moore, an offseason addition, worked out with the Cowboys during training camp last year but wasn’t signed then because of concerns over some off-thefield issues.

Irving will miss the first four games for violating the NFL’s policy against performance-enhancing drugs. Gregory, a second-round pick who slid in the 2015 draft because of concerns over marijuana use, could miss the entire season for multiple violations of the substance policy.

Cornerback Nolan Carroll, a free agent pickup from Philadelphia, faces a two-game ban over his arrest on a drunken-driving charge earlier this year.

• Denver linebacker Shane Ray will undergo surgery today to repair a torn ligament in his left wrist a day after running back Devontae Booker underwent surgery to repair a hairline fracture in his left wrist that was misdiagnosed for a month as a sprain.

Ray, a first-round pick in 2015, will miss 6-8 weeks. The Broncos are hoping to have him back by their third regular-season game, at Buffalo on Sept. 24.

• Kansas City and Seattle have swapped linebackers, with D.J. Alexander joining the Seahawks and Kevin Pierre-Louis being sent to the Chiefs.

Alexander was a Pro Bowler last season as a special teams player for the Chiefs, recording 16 total tackles in the regular season. Pierre-Louis never matched his potential with the Seahawks, appearing in 34 regular-season games, posting 43 total tackles.

• Defensive lineman Aaron Donald did not report to camp while seeking a new contract from the Rams, who have spent months in negotiations with their two-time All-Pro.

General manager Les Snead intends to continue talks on a contract extension with Donald, who didn’t join his veteran teammates when they checked in at UC Irvine for the first weekend of practice. Snead wouldn’t say whether the Rams will fine Donald up to $40,000 per day when practice begins today.

• Chicago Bears outside linebacker Pernell McPhee had arthroscopic surgery yesterday on his right knee. There is no timetable for his return.

• The Tennessee Titans agreed to a multi-year extension with two-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Jurrell Casey, for a reported four years and $60.4 million.

• The San Francisco 49ers signed No. 3 overall pick Solomon Thomas, a defensive lineman out of Stanford.
