BIRTHDAY B-AAAASH FOR G.O.A.T

-

Tom Brady turned 40 yesterday and, in typical Boston style, fans went berserk at a birthday bash in his honor at Faneuil Hall.

Just outside Quincy Market, a designated Tom Brady Birthday Celebration Tent — or you could call it a shrine — was erected. Flanked by red and blue balloons, the tent was covered in Patriots swag, footballs, a lifesize cutout of TB12 and several Fatheads of his face that were later passed around the crowd.

At 1 p.m., folks decked out in Patriots gear gathered in the sun to sing “Happy Birthday” to Tommy. Afterwards, a North

End Bakery sheet cake — whose decorations included a picture of the quarterback, his TB12 brand logo and his five, shiny Super Bowl rings — was cut and distributed to the sweaty bodies nearby.

Those festivities alone would have sufficed. But the main attraction was the real, live goat donning TB12’s jersey that they brought for the occasion. The poor kid was swarmed by fans clamoring to take a picture with him. His eyes were just screaming, “Bahhhck-off, people.”

This wasn’t the only goat used to commemorate Brady’s birthday. The Patriots had a pen full of the fuzzy farmyard animals set up at their practice in Foxboro. There were five of them, representing the five Super Bowls our very own GOAT has won with the Patriots.

The best part of the Faneuil Hall bash was not watching the fans, but rather the droves of summer tourists, who typically hit up the historic market, trying to make sense of the scene. With clam chowders in hand, they stopped and congested at Faneuil Hall in wonder.

One perplexed pedestrian, who was clearly not from our city, stopped to ask if all the cameras were there because Brady was making an appearance. We had to explain that no, everyone was going crazy just over the cardboard version of their hero. For context, the outsider’s follow-up question was to ask where our stadium was located.

It’s OK that Brady’s birthday didn’t elicit an animated response from non-natives.

They just ain’t us.
