Yanks power past Indians

Luis Severino overpowere­d the Indians into the seventh inning, Jacoby Ellsbury hit a three-run triple and Aaron Judge hammered a three-run homer, sending the New York Yankees to a 8-1 win in American League play yesterday in Cleveland.

Severino (9-4) gave up Michael Brantley’s homer in the first and then toyed with the AL Central leaders, striking out nine. He didn’t give up his second hit until there were two outs in the seventh and was pulled. The All-Star is 4-0 with a 0.71 ERA in his last four starts.

Ellsbury’s triple came in a five-run sixth inning off Carlos Carrasco (10-5), and Judge connected in the seventh for his 35th homer.

Orioles 12, Tigers 3 — Jonathan Schoop, Chris Davis and Trey Mancini homered in succession against Anibal Sanchez (3-2) during a fourrun first inning that sent host Baltimore on its way to the lopsided victory against Detroit, with Ubaldo Jimenez (5-7) earning his first win in five starts.

Joey Rickard and Manny Machado (five RBI) also connected for the Orioles.

Astros 7, Blue Jays 6 — Juan Centeno hit an RBI single with two outs to cap a fourrun rally in the ninth inning, pushing AL West-best Houston past visiting Toronto in walkoff style.

Carlos Beltran grounded into a forceout to bring in the first run of the ninth, and Alex Bregman hit a tying, two-run triple off Blue Jays closer Roberto Osuna (3-3).

Mariners, Royals split — Kansas City got a homer from Whit Merrifield in both ends of a doublehead­er and won Game 2, 9-1, after Nelson Cruz homered twice in Seattle’s 8-7 win in Game 1.

The Mariners acquired All-Star first baseman Yonder Alonso from Oakland for outfielder Boog Powell.

Twins 6, Rangers 5 — In Minneapoli­s, Max Kepler, Brian Dozier and Eddie Rosario homered to help Minnesota dig out of a five-run hole and edge Texas, whose Adrian Beltre and Joey Gallo went deep.

Athletics 11, Angels 10 — In Anaheim, Calif., Bruce Maxwell’s two-run single completed a dramatic fiverun, two-out comeback in the eighth inning, and Oakland stunned Los Angeles.

Rays 2, Brewers 1 — In St. Petersburg, Fla., Steven Souza Jr. homered leading off the ninth inning to give Tampa Bay a win against Milwaukee in a game that had been a pitchers’ duel between Chris Archer and Jimmy Nelson.

National League

Dodgers 8, Mets 0 — Hyun-Jin Ryu (4-6), Tony Cingrani and Kenley Jansen combined on a one-hitter, and Cody Bellinger and Justin Turner both homered for the second straight day, and NL West-dominating Los Angeles won going away to complete a season sweep of host New York.

Nationals 9, Cubs 4 — Matt Wieters hit a go-ahead grand slam in a five-run eighth inning, helping visiting Washington beat Chicago, whose Willson Contreras homered twice in the series finale between division leaders.

Cardinals 13, Reds 4 — Jose Martinez hit his first career grand slam during a ninerun, 13-batter fourth inning, and visiting St. Louis routed Cincinnati.

Marlins 4, Braves 1 — Jose Urena (10-5) went six strong innings, Marcell Ozuna and J.T. Realmuto hit back-toback homers, and Miami beat host Atlanta.

Pirates 5, Padres 4 — Newly reacquired Sean Rodriquez homered in the 12th inning to give Pittsburgh the walkoff win against visiting San Diego.

Giants 6, Diamondbac­ks 3— Jarrett Parker homered, and Hunter Pence and Nick Hundley each had two RBI, as host San Francisco doubled up Arizona.

Phillies 3, Rockies 2 — In Denver, Cameron Rupp hit a two-run double in the ninth inning, and Philadelph­ia rallied past Colorado.
