MINDY (FINALLY) TALKS LATEST LITTLE PROJECT
Funny gal extraordinaire and Cambridge native Mindy Kaling has finally broken her silence about the “unexpected surprise,” confirming and commenting on her first pregnancy. In a preview for a “Sunday Today With Willie Geist,” segment, “The Mindy Project” creator and star shared her excitement about her upcoming bundle of joy. And that includes a major perk she jokingly mentioned.
“It’s so easy to criticize parenting until you’re a parent, so one of the nice things about becoming a parent is that I’ll be able to openly criticize other parenting because I will have a child,” she said in the interview clip released yesterday.
Jokes aside, she opened up about going in blind as a first-time parent who wasn’t necessarily intent on getting pregnant.
“It’s so unknown to me,” she says. “I have a lot of control over a lot of aspects of my life, and this is one where I’m like, ‘OK, it’s out of my hands,’ which is kind of a fun feeling.”
Kaling does have a game plan when it comes to her impending motherhood: She hopes to take a leaf out of her late mom’s parenting book.
“My mom was incredibly fierce and so devoted to us, just loved us and really wanted us to be happy no matter what we did,” Kaling says.
“My career choice was not something that she was familiar with and she was just so supportive of that. And if I could give that to my child, just that open-mindedness, I’d be so happy.”
One thing we can expect to remain a secret is the paternity of Kaling’s kid. Since the baby buzz started, she’s been keeping her lips sealed about the father, reportedly even among her closest friends.
