Warrants issued for three ‘speech rally’ counterprotesters
Men skipped out on court arraignments yesterday
Arrest warrants are out for three men who skipped their arraignments yesterday after being cuffed following the “Free Speech Rally” on the Boston Common Saturday and massive counterdemonstration.
Adan Daroba, 22, of Boston, is accused of trying to steal several bottles from a vending cart near Downtown Crossing at around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, hours after the rally wrapped up, and punching police officers who tried to intervene, according to Suffolk District Attorney spokesman Jake Wark.
Roberto Bonilla, 20, of Chelsea is charged with swinging a pole in the crowd on Boston Common the same day, Wark said, and had a knife in his pocket when he was arrested.
Chad Cruger, 18, of Saratoga, N.Y., allegedly scuffled with police officers near Tremont and West streets on Saturday, Wark added.
All three men were bailed out of jail and failed to show up for their first scheduled court appearances yesterday in Boston Municipal Court, the DA’s office said, adding that warrants have been issued for their arrests.
Two other men were arraigned Wednesday and released on their own recognizance.
Police say 33 people were arrested Saturday and four had weapons, including a loaded firearm. Authorities say the protests near the Boston Common were mostly peaceful.
Saturday’s rallies came a week after white supremacists and counterprotesters clashed in Charlottesville, Va., that left one person dead and sparked nationwide unrest.
