‘IDOL’ CHATTER IN HUB

-

WCVB’s “Chronicle” is bringing us the first “Boston Idol,” filming performances from 10 local finalists hoping to land a leg up in the “American Idol” auditions at Kiss 108’s Medford studio.

“We’re the city of champions…. so why wouldn’t we have the next ‘American Idol?’” said Shayna Seymour, co-anchor of “Chronicle” and host of the “Boston Idol” competition.

Joining Seymour for the special show were three judges: former “American Idol” judge Kara DioGuardi, Kiss 108’s Romeo and Jordan’s Furniture’s Eliot Tatelman.

“I’m always looking for the same thing, whether you’re from Boston or Nebraska,” DioGuardi said of her judging style. “And that’s somebody who stands out, somebody who’s unique and who is able to tell their story through music in a way that I haven’t heard before.”

And while Romeo explained he planned on judging “vocal ability itself … confidence, stage presence, showmanship,” Tatelman had a different view of his role on the panel.

“I’m here for comic relief. And I’m not sure I’m good at that either,” Tatelman joked.

The 10 local singers vying to be the first “Boston Idol” were Caeden Sugrue of Grafton, Liliko Uchida of Northboro, Crystal Taber of Amesbury, Jacob Tobey of Sandwich, Jared Horgan of Needham, Ruth Christmas of Boston, Ryan Monahan of Leicester, Timmy Brown of Norton, Lisbeth Perdomo of Lawrence and Joey Polvere of Brockton.

All 10 of these contestants are receiving a front-of-the-line ticket for the “American Idol” Bus Tour when it comes to Boston, at the corner of Winter and Tremont streets, for open call auditions on Sept. 8.

The top singer, who will be revealed during the “Boston Idol” episode airing on Sept. 6, will win a Silver Ticket, which guarantees that they will get to perform in front of an “American Idol” executive producer in one of their audition cities — all expenses paid.
