Ex-Patriots OL Light talks charity raffle, Edelman's injury

-

Former New England Patriots lineman Matt Light joined Boston Herald Radio’s “Adriana Cohen Show” yesterday to talk about his foundation and the Pats.

Q: You have a raffle going on right now and a charity event in September. Tell us about both.

A: We’ve got an amazing raffle that’s going to go to somebody and a friend of theirs, an opportunity to be at the big game coming up on Sept. 7 ... You don’t have to spend a ton of money to enter, go to kickoffgameraffle.com, spend 10 bucks and you may be with us at that Thursday night opener. It includes tickets to the game — you’re going to be in a suite by the way — dinner at Davio’s and a hotel stay. So you got everything you need to have an incredible experience.

And again, all of the money raised is going to go to the Light Foundation as well as Boston Children’s Hospital ... It’s a great way to support two great organizations and an opportunity to go to the game.

Q: So people could just go to kickoffgameraffle.com or Lighthouseraffle.org, is that right?

A: Yeah. Either way and you get an opportunity to come visit us. And we’ve got secondary prizes ... you’ve got three chances to win and all in all it’s just a great experience ... and if you love Rob Ninkovich, he’s signed some stuff, so if you spend a certain amount you’ll get a guaranteed signed Rob Ninkovich piece of merchandise, so that’s pretty cool as well.

Q: How bad is this losing Julian Edelman? He and Tom Brady have the telepathy communication-style here. How bad is this?

A: It’s a major blow to the offense. It’s a major blow to the team. Guys that show up the way Julian Edelman did from day one, I mean he was the guy that I talked about. When he was a rookie, nobody understood what he was capable of outside of our locker room.

But I was telling people from the very beginning ... that he was going to be a playmaker. To watch him over the years go from a guy that was kind of sitting in the wings to one of the most dependable receivers, one of the most dependable options on the field at any point.

Whether it was special teams or in the kicking game, what he does being able to play multiple positions on offense, it really has been incredible.

They’ve got a lot of great weapons but they’re not going to replace him, and it will to be interesting to see how they bring other people up and develop them into a similar role.
