BEN & BRO EYE WAR HERO FILM
Cambridge-bred Ben Affleck may have forfeited his directorial duties for “The Batman,” but it seems like he’s itching to get back behind the camera. He’s reportedly in early talks about directing the upcoming war flick “Red Platoon” — and the project might also involve his brother, Casey Affleck.
The movie, whose rights were bought by Sony, is to be based on Clinton Romesha’s memoir. The plot centers on the Battle of Kamdesh, which took place in Afghanistan on Oct. 3, 2009.
Before dawn that day, more than 300 Taliban soldiers raided U.S. Outpost Keating, located close to the AfghanPakistani border. Against all odds, Staff Sgt. Romesha managed to lead a small group of American soldiers in a counterattack that ultimately saved dozens of lives and earned him a Congressional Medal of Honor.
Much is still up in the air with regards to the “Red Platoon” film, but if Ben gets the director gig, he would be looking to cast his little bro and Academy Award- winning actor Casey as the lead, Empire magazine reported.
In that double-Affleck scenario, it would be only the second time for the brothers to work on a film together in a director-actor relationship, the first being the 2007 movie “Gone Baby Gone.”
Currently, Casey is coming off his role in “A Ghost Story.” Meanwhile, we’re anxiously awaiting Ben’s return as Bruce Wayne in “Justice League,” which is hitting theaters Nov. 17.
That said, we could always use a little more Affleck in our lives, so fingers crossed that this “Red Platoon” project will pan out.
