Nine straight wins by Tribe

Mike Clevinger pitched six sharp innings and the Cleveland Indians swept a day-night doublehead­er in Detroit, routing the Tigers, 10-0, last night for their ninth straight win.

The AL Central-leading Indians won the opener 3-2 on Francisco Lindor’s tiebreakin­g single in the ninth inning.

Roberto Perez homered and drove in three runs to back Clevinger (8-5).

Clevinger allowed three hits, struck out six and walked one. In three starts against the Tigers this year — all wins — he has given up one run in 18 innings.

Rays 3, White Sox 1 — Logan Morrison hit his 34th homer and drove in three runs, Blake Snell pitched into the seventh inning to win his third straight decision and Tampa Bay beat host Chicago.

Morrison, who went 3-for-4, has five homers in his last five games. He’s hitting .480 with 11 RBI during that span.

Rangers 10, Angels 9 — In Arlington, Texas, Carlos Gomez scored the goahead run in the eighth inning on a wild pitch and hosts held off Los Angeles in a game that lasted 4:33, setting franchise records for both teams.

Texas stopped the Angels’ three-game winning streak and closed within three games of Minnesota for the second wild-card spot. Los Angeles is 1A games behind the Twins.

Mariners 3, Athletics 2 — Mike Leake overcame a shaky beginning to throw seven innings in his Seattle debut, and the hosts snapped a five-game losing streak, beating Oakland.

It was just the fourth time since the All-Star break a Mariners starting pitcher has gotten through seven innings and the first since James Paxton did it on July 24.

Royals 7, Twins 6 — In Minneapoli­s, Mike Moustakas homered for the first time since mid-August, Brandon Moss also went deep and Kansas City held off the hosts. Melky Cabrera tied a season-high with four hits for the Royals.

Cubs 2, Braves 0 — John Lackey pitched seven crisp innings, Javier Baez’ daring baserunnin­g paid off again and host Chicago beat Atlanta for its fifth straight win.

Lackey (11-10) is 6-1 with a 3.83 ERA in nine starts since the All-Star break. The 38-year-old retired his last 16 batters after a second-inning single by Dansby Swanson.

Diamondbac­ks 9, Rockies 5 — In Denver, Taijuan Walker struck out a career-high 10, Daniel Descalso homered and surging Arizona won its eighth straight and increased its lead to 4A games over Colorado for the first NL wildcard spot.

Dodgers 1, Padres 0 — Clayton Kershaw (16-2) was sharp in his first start in five weeks, holding host San Diego to two singles in six innings as Los Angeles snapped its season-high five-game losing streak.

Phillies 2, Marlins 1 — Philadelph­ia was shut out for seven innings by major league-newcomer Dillon Peters but rallied for two runs in the ninth to extend host Miami’s losing streak to five games.

Major league home run leader Giancarlo Stanton went 0-for-2 with two walks and is 1-for-17 this week.

Reds 7, Pirates 3 — Adam Duvall drove in two runs to lead Cincinnati to a victory over host Pittsburgh.

Brewers 1, Nationals 0 — Jimmy Nelson scattered three singles and struck out 11 over seven innings and Milwaukee beat visiting Washington.

Mets-Astros, ppd. — New York’s game at Houston was postponed. The teams are scheduled to play a doublehead­er today.

Elsewhere in baseball — Adrian Beltre could miss the rest of the regular season after an MRI showed a Grade 2 strain in his left hamstring.
