Norman J. Walsh, Army vet of WWII, of Quincy, 94

Norman J. Walsh of Quincy, a WWII veteran, died Aug. 30. He was 94.

He was born in Boston and was a longtime resident of Quincy.

He served in the Army during WWII.

Mr. Walsh was a 1946 graduate of Harvard.

He began his career working in municipal government in Worcester and Quincy.

He later worked as a loan officer at Shawmut Bank prior to becoming vice president of the newly incorporat­ed City Bank.

Mr. Walsh went on to become a loan and liquidatio­n officer for the Small Business Administra­tion in 1978 assisting businesses that were devastated as a result of the Blizzard of ’78.

He was an avid reader who loved Boston sports and his Irish heritage and especially dining out with friends and family.

He was a devout Catholic and was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and treasurer of Harvard Club of Quincy for over 30 years.

Mr. Walsh also enjoyed woodworkin­g, crossword puzzles, watching vintage TV series and was a Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipient.

Husband to the late Dorothy A. Rooney, he is survived by a son, Norman of Milton; a granddaugh­ter, Katharine A. Vaughan of Milton and a grandson, Colin M. of Melrose.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Church, Quincy.

Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Quincy.
