DIV. 5-6 PREVIEW

Division 5 South is clearly the section of resumes.

Falmouth and Hanover captured Super Bowl titles last year, while Holliston has been a perennial contender under coach Todd Kiley. That being said, two teams to watch in this section are Dennis-Yarmouth and Scituate. Both teams return a slew of talent and have to be considered preseason favorites to get through a difficult group.

Div. 5 North looks to be a bit top-heavy as Lynnfield, Watertown and Triton may be a step above the field. Lynnfield returns a solid nucleus and just might be the favorite by the end of the season.

In Div. 6 North, the season-opener between Bishop Fenwick and Hamilton-Wenham pits a pair of teams that should be in the hunt for the sectional title. Another team to watch is Stoneham, a solid team that has fared well in the Middlesex Freedom in recent years.

East Bridgewater returns several players who started on last year’s Div. 3A Super Bowl championship team and thus should be a contender in Div. 6 South. In the South Shore League, Middleboro will be a definite threat to East Bridgewater. The teams played a classic last season. Cardinal Spellman is a dangerous sleeper and one of the preseason favorites in the Catholic Central Large. Old Rochester has workhorse running back Harry Smith returning for another season.
