LEGENDS LOOK BACK AT SUPER COMEBACK

-

Before our Patriots took on the Kansas City Chiefs in last night’s opener, the NFL wrangled together a bunch of Pats legends, as well as Boston-raised band Guster for the 2017 NFL Kickoff concert.

But first, they had to talk about that Super Bowl comeback.

“I didn’t think we were going to overcome it,” said ex-safety Rodney Harrison to the crowd collected at Christopher Columbus Park, with the Vince Lombardi Trophy prominently displayed in front of Boston Harbor.

“That’s just the truth. I left in the third quarter,” Harrison continued. “I had $7,000 worth of tickets and I grabbed my wife and said, ‘Let’s get the (expletive) out of here because they’re going to have 50 points put up on them.’ Man, you can’t lie. You know you were the same way.”

“We all had doubt, but the one thing as players, you don’t let that enter your mental (space),” chimed in former linebacker Willie McGinest, who took the stage in addition to Harrison and excenter Dan Koppen.

“When we were playing, we were programmed to always think of the next play… You erase it and go to the next play,” McGinest added.

Fortunately, that’s exactly what our guys did to close last season with yet another Super Bowl win. And now, let’s hope that play-by-play mentality continues into the slew of 2017 games.

WBTS newscaster J.C. Monahan and actor Scott Evans, whom you also might know as Captain America/Chris Evans’ brother, were also there for the fanfare, helping to give away tickets to yesterday’s game, as well as those to Super Bowl LII.

Not to jinx ourselves, but we think we know at least one of the teams who will be taking part in that game.
