WEEK 2 PREVIEW

Marshfield coach Lou Silva hasn’t seen BC High in person this year, but the memories of last year’s scrimmage were more than enough.

The Rams will get a chance to renew acquaintances tonight at Viola Stadium in Dorchester. Both teams are coming off lopsided wins, but this figures to be a much tougher test.

“They are a very impressive team; they’re pretty much the same team we scrimmaged before,” Silva said. “I was so impressed with them on both offense and defense. We’ll be in for a battle.”

Marshfield rolled to a 44-8 victory over Cranston West last week, dominating on both sides of the ball. The Rams have a handful of players who can cause problems, a fact not lost on Eagles coach Jon Bartlett.

“They are a very good team,” Bartlett said. “They’re always well coached, they’re physical, they’re just really good.”

BC High defeated Andover, 347, last week as Danny Abraham tore through the Golden Warriors defense to the tune of 261 yards and four touchdowns. Even more pleasing to the Eagles was the play of quarterback Will Bowen, who ran for 139 yards and a score.

“Will stepped in and really did a good job,” Bartlett said. “He’s going to get better and better as he gets used to the new position, and that will give us three good options (Abraham, Bowen and Bobby DeMeo).”

The fact that four of BC High’s touchdowns went for more than 65 yards certainly caught Silva’s attention. The last thing he wants to see is an Eagle flying untouched into the secondary.

“We have to be able to hold on to the ball as long as we can; we can’t afford to go three-andout too often,” Silva said. “On defense, we have to make them drive the field, make them work for everything instead of giving up the big play.”

In other action tonight, St. John’s Prep travels to Central Catholic in a nonleague battle of Division 1 North contenders. Xaverian will be looking to avoid its first twogame losing streak since October 2012 when it hosts a very solid Bridgewater-Raynham squad at the Hawk Bowl.

No. 1 Everett heads out to Central Mass. to face Leominster, while closer to home, Cathedral and Brighton meet up at Daly Field.

The biggest game on the docket tomorrow takes places in Tewksbury, where the Redmen host Methuen in a Merrimack Valley Conference crossover tilt. Newton North will look to get back on the winning track when it takes on visiting Natick.
