RESIDENTS CARRY ON DESPITE NEW THREAT
Plainclothes cops to keep an eye on T
Transit police are dispatching plainclothes officers trained to spot terrorist threats on the MBTA alongside uniformed cops in the wake of the ISIS-inspired bombing on the London subway that injured at least 29 people.
“We will deploy plainclothes officers specially trained to detect behaviors exhibited by individuals who pose a threat to our riding public,” MBTA Transit Police Superintendent Richard Sullivan said in a statement.
He added that he has no “actionable intelligence nor have we been made aware of any threat, credible or otherwise, against the MBTA.”
ISIS took credit for the homemade bomb attack in London, which sparked a manhunt for what’s believed to be a number of perpetrators.
Sullivan said the attack “serves as a stark reminder transit systems around the world are a target-rich environment for those with nefarious intent.”
“Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by the terrorist incident on the London Underground,” Sullivan said.
Sullivan said police will be closely monitoring the system’s public safety camera system to spot any potential threats.
“We encourage everyone to go about their business but remain aware of their surroundings and contact us should they see anything they deem suspicious,” Sullivan said. “Together we can maintain as safe a system as possible.”
