Central Catholic shuts out Prep
H.S. FOOTBALL
In a clash between two of Division 1 North’s best, Central Catholic’s physicality proved to be too much for St. John’s Prep.
Highlighted by a staunch defensive effort, and an offensive ground attack led by Max Faro and Ty Donatio, the Raiders defeated the Eagles, 21-0, last night at Veterans Memorial Field.
The Raiders defense, led by Ryan Burns, Donatio and Mathias Villafane (interception), held the Prep to 106 yards of offense through the first 31⁄2 quarters. St. John’s only got past midfield once.
Faro, alongside Donatio, provided a balanced attack for the Central offense, combining for 142 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Central Catholic senior quarterback Bret Edwards was in command throughout the first half, going 7-for-12 for 110 yards and a touchdown.
On the Raiders second drive, Edwards converted a third-and-5 throwing deep on the run to Jake Delaney for a 45-yard completion. Two plays later, he ran it in from five yards out for a 7-0 lead.
