John A. Hession, veteran, retired Quincy teacher

John A. “Sean” Hession of Weymouth, a military veteran, died Tuesday at home on the Feast of the Holy Name of Mary.

He was a native of Athenry, County Galway, Ireland. He served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Hession lived in St. Ann’s Parish in Quincy for more than 30 years.

He worked as an English teacher for the Winthrop school system for 32 years, before retiring.

He was a member of St. Jerome’s Parish in Weymouth.

Mr. Hession made frequent pilgrimage­s to Medjugorie, in Bosnia and Herzegovin­a.

He was involved in many charitable and anti-abortion organizati­ons, was involved in the local Irish community and loved his Irish heritage.

Husband of the late Margaret “Marian,” he is survived by a daughter, Elaine Corrigan of St. Augustine, Fla.; a son, Paul of Abington; three sisters, Della Stockwell of Hertfordsh­ire, England, Rose McMullin of Dorchester and Detta Mallory of Castlebar, County Mayo, Ireland; two brothers, Michael of Athenry, Ireland, Frank of Shantraud, Killaloe, County Clare, Ireland; five grandchild­ren; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Jerome Church, Weymouth.

Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Randolph.
