Central Catholic races by Methuen

It wasn’t the start No. 2 Central Catholic was looking for, but the finish will do just fine.

Trailing No. 20 Methuen by 11 points late in the third quarter yesterday at Veterans Memorial Field in Lawrence, the Raiders scored the game’s final 28 points to pull away from the Rangers, 47-30.

Senior quarterbac­k Bret Edwards finished 10-for-20 for 196 yards and two TDs to go along with a 62-yard TD run, while fellow senior Ty Donatio finished with two long fourth-quarter scoring runs (54, 67) as the Raiders improved to 3-0 overall.

“You have to give props to Methuen because that is a real good team and we knew this was going to a tough game,” said Central coach Chuck Adamopoulo­s. “We challenged the kids at halftime, and they responded well.”

Gabe DeSouza caught four passes for 158 yards and two scores as North Andover (3-0) knocked off Tewksbury, 35-16, in the Merrimack Valley Small.

Colin Frary threw for three touchdowns and ran for a fourth to propel Swampscott (3-0) to a 48-6 victory over Winthrop in a Northeaste­rn Conference clash . . . . Clark Marchand ran for 140 yards and two scores while adding a 37-yard TD reception as Beverly (1-2) took down Malden, 53-13. . . . Derek Marino amassed 162 receiving yards and two scores as Marblehead (3-0) defeated Peabody, 21-7.

Charlie Sumner and Odahri Hibberts each scored twice as Needham (2-1) edged Newton North, 28-27, in a Bay State Carey matchup . ... Billy Silvia ran for 170 yards and two touchdowns as Braintree (2-1) defeated Framingham, 47-30.

Brett Lavanchy ran for a pair of scores as Walpole (12) handled Norwood, 37-0, in the Bay State Herget.

Phil Lashley led the way with 152 yards and two touchdowns, including the winning score in overtime, as Silver Lake (3-0) defeated Quincy, 20-14 in Patriot League play.

Will Garcia ran for 150 yards and three touchdowns as Old Rochester (3-0) defeated Greater New Bedford, 33-6, in the South Coast Conference . ... Issac Nascimento’s three rushing touchdowns proved to be the difference in Wareham’s 20-8 victory over Fairhaven.

In a Commonweal­th Athletic Conference crossover contest, Zach Sanderson rushed for 211 yards and five touchdowns, while John Keats added 142 yards and a touchdown to pace Northeast (2-1) to a 48-14 win over Mystic Valley.

Kyle Burns rushed for two touchdowns to power Southeaste­rn (2-1) to a 38-0 victory over Bishop Connolly in a Mayflower League matchup . . . . Peter Beuttel finished with two rushing TDs and added a pick-6 as Sacred Heart (2-0) defeated South Shore, 28-7.

Evan Gwozdz threw for two scores and ran for two more as Middleboro (3-0) defeated Randolph, 33-6, in the South Shore League . ... Jon Baar scored three touchdowns, including a 100-yard intercepti­on return, to give Rockland (2-1) a 25-7 win over East Bridgewate­r.

Mitchell Gonser threw four touchdown passes as Medfield (3-0) cruised past Tri-Valley Large opponent Norton, 55-10.

Kurt Hopkins ran for three scores in the first half as Millis (2-1) handled Dedham, 24-0, in the Tri-Valley League Small.
