Authorities seek help in probe of teacher’s death
Authorities yesterday renewed the call for tips from the public as they probe the suspicious death of a beloved elementary school teacher in Lynn.
“Anyone who noticed people, vehicles or just something out of place on Saturday is asked to share that information with police. Even the most innocuous observation could prove vital to investigators,” said Jake Wark, spokesman for Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley.
The body of Vanessa MacCormack, 30, a secondgrade teacher at Connery Elementary School in Lynn, was found dead Saturday at her Revere home.
Cops said MacCormack showed signs of trauma.
State police spokesman David Procopio said authorities are using extensive resources to “determine who is responsible and to search for justice for Ms. MacCormack.”
No suspect has been identified, but police said the circumstances surrounding her death “do not immediately suggest a random incident.”
A woman reached at a relative’s apartment in Lynn yesterday declined to give her name, but said of MacCormack: “There aren’t enough beautiful words to describe her.”
She declined to comment further, saying the family would like privacy to mourn.
Authorities have said MacCormack shared her home in Revere with her husband of two years and a child.
Lynn schools Superintendent Catherine C. Latham has said in a statement MacCormack was an employee for seven years and taught at Connery for five. “She was a talented, dedicated and passionate educator and a loyal, kind and compassionate friend and colleague.”
Dan Cahill, a city councilor and state representative in Lynn, said MacCormack’s family is well known in the west side of the city.
“It’s just a tragedy for a young person to lose their life like this, especially someone who was impacting other young lives like Vanessa was. It’s just a shock to a lot of people,” he said.
