After a week, Dolphins lift Timmons’ suspension

-

The Dolphins’ vanishing linebacker is back. Yesterday, Miami lifted the suspension of Lawrence Timmons after one week, and he’s eligible to play Sunday against the New Orleans Saints in London, according to a source.

Timmons was suspended indefinitely after he went AWOL the day before the Dolphins’ season-opening win at the Los Angeles Chargers. The Dolphins filed a missing person report before making contact with the 11th-year veteran, who apparently was dealing with a personal matter.

Coach Adam Gase was angered by the disappearance of Timmons, who wasn’t with the Dolphins at their opening 19-17 win. The game was the first Timmons has missed since 2010. He wanted to rejoin the team last week, and several players said they would welcome him back.

Timmons signed a twoyear, $12 million deal in March after 10 seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

To make room for the reinstated Timmons, the Dolphins waived linebacker Justin March-Lillard.

Also, prosecutors in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., decided yesterday not to file domestic violence charges against Dolphins wide receiver Jarvis Landry.

The Broward State Attorney’s Office said an investigation determined there was “no reasonable likelihood” of a conviction. The case involved an April 1 encounter between Landry and Estrella Cerqueira, the mother of their daughter.

Beckham in trouble

The New York Giants say they will internally handle Odell Beckham Jr.’s embarrassing post-touchdown celebration. Co-owner John Mara said in an email that he was unhappy with Beckham’s behavior Sunday in Philadelphia.

The wide receiver pretended to urinate like a dog after catching a fourthquarter touchdown in the Giants’ 27-24 loss.

Yesterday, Beckham hinted on social media that it might have been a politically motivated pantomime meant to reference President Trump calling players who kneel during the national anthem a “son of a (expletive).”

“I’m a dog so I acted like a dog,” he said.

Beckham was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct. The NFL probably will fine him . ...

Los Angeles Rams defensive lineman Ethan Westbrooks was arrested after an officer saw a gun in his car when he was pulled over for speeding in Bakersfield, Calif., the California Highway Patrol said.

Westbrooks was arrested Friday on suspicion of possessing a loaded firearm, possessing a stolen firearm and possessing a high-capacity magazine.

Westbrooks is a starting defensive end who has one sack and five tackles in three games.

Chiefs kicker on IR

The Kansas City Chiefs placed kicker Cairo Santos on injured reserve with a groin injury and claimed rookie kicker Harrison Butker off the Carolina Panthers practice squad. The Chiefs did not say whether Santos would be designated to return his season. He was hit on a field goal attempt in Sunday’s victory against the Chargers, drawing a personal foul . . . .

The NFL and Facebook announced a two-year deal to deliver official NFL video and other content to fans. The league said in a statement it will publish NFL game recaps and official highlights from all regular-season games starting this week, along with the playoffs and Super Bowl.

NFL Media will distribute content from its production arm, NFL Films, on Facebook’s Watch platform.
