3 BIG QUESTIONS

- COMPILED BY ADAM KURKJIAN

Here are some issues we’ll be talking about this week following the Pats’ 33-30 loss:

Still searching?

What exactly is the right mix for the Patriots on defense? So far, it doesn't seem like there is a clear answer. The Panthers came into yesterday's game with a struggling offense, but still found a way to move the ball consistently. The Patriots once again struggling covering running backs, and there was also a general lack of awareness of where Panthers receivers were.

Projection problems?

The offensive line had another shaky game protecting quarterback Tom Brady. The team came into the game with 10 sacks allowed, ninth-worst in the league. Even with the return of right tackle Marcus Cannon, the Pats allowed two sacks in the first half and three for the game. Cannon in particular was beat badly by Julius Peppers on a play in the second quarter.

Brady bailout?

Once again, Brady's heroics nearly gave the Patriots a comeback win. Down 30-16, Brady led touchdown drives that resulted in an 8-yard Dion Lewis run and a 1-yard completion to Danny Amendola on fourth down in the back of the end zone. The Brady magic worked a week ago when the Pats rallied for a 36-33 win over the Houston Texans. But yesterday the defense could not make a critical stop on the last drive of the game and the Panthers kicked the game-winner as time ran out.
