Auto dealership revs up for Brighton liquor store site

An Alfa Romeo and Maserati car dealership and service center is in line to replace the former longtime Martignetti Liquors store on Soldiers Field Road in Brighton.

Michigan-based FCA Realty LLC is proposing a 27,000-square-foot, singlestory building to house the automobile business, which would be constructed at an estimated cost of $4.5 million at 1650 Soldiers Field Road.

FCA is the real estate arm of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles LLC and Maserati North America Inc. It purchased the 1.8-acre property for $14 million from Martignetti in March, according to Suffolk County Registry of Deeds documents.

If construction starts in the second quarter of next year, it is estimated the car dealership would be completed in early 2019.

“The proposed building will be designed and built with modern building materials and much greater attention to detail (than the current 1960s-era building on the site),” FCA said in its project filing with the Boston Planning & Development Agency. “It is of great importance to both the owner and the design team that the building convey the same quality as the automobiles being sold here.”

Martignetti Liquors, which had been operating in Brighton since 1963, closed its store earlier this year under a company shift to a wholesale business model.
