Time for former, current Mrs. Trump to act like ladies

- Jaclyn CASHMAN

Donald Trump’s first wife, Ivana Trump, has written a book about parenting — but it seems her real expertise may be in providing an example of how to start a serious cat fight with your ex-husband’s current wife.

Promoting her new book, “Rais- ing Trump,” out today, Ivana managed to make headlines yesterday when answering a question about whether she has a direct line to the White House.

The answer, she claims, is yes. She talks to The Donald about every two weeks, she said.

And for good measure, she added believes she has a claim to the title of first lady.

“I don’t really want to call him there because Melania is there, and I don’t want to cause any kind of jealousy or something like that,” Ivana said, laughing, to an ABC reporter. “Because I’m basically first Trump wife, OK? I’m first lady, OK?” None of this sat well with Melania.

The first lady’s spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham, said Ivana Trump’s comments have “no substance.”

“Mrs. Trump has made the White House a home for Barron and the President,” Grisham fired back in a statement. “She loves living in Washington, D.C., and is honored by her role as First Lady of the United States. She plans to use her title and role to help children, not sell books. There is clearly no substance to this statement from an ex, this is unfortunately only attention-seeking and self-serving noise.”

Apparently this is what happens when your president has been married three times.

How regrettable that, like her husband, Melania was unable to rise above a petty insult and be the bigger person. After all, Melania is the one with the actual title.

Instead, a family feud is now in full swing.

Remember when first ladies used to act like ladies?

This sort of behavior must be so embarrassing to women like Laura Bush who took the role seriously and didn’t feel the need to respond to criticism of people who don’t really matter.

And then there’s Ivana.

You would think out of respect for her daughter Ivanka, who’s working in the White House, she would have avoided slamming her children’s stepmom. Imagine how awkward Ivanka and Melania’s next encounter will be? Especially when you remember that, for the first few months of the Trump administration, political observers routinely described Ivanka as taking on the role as first lady because Melania stayed in New York while her son finished school.

Trump has enough drama. His daughter needs to muzzle her mom.
