Boston Winter festival adds charities to its '17 edition
Charities will get a shot at pitching their causes to the crowds drawn to this year’s Boston Winter outdoor holiday festival on City Hall Plaza.
Millennial Entertainment Group, which runs the market portion of the open-air festival, is offering charities free space in a retail chalet alongside vendors and artists who’ll be selling their wares from Nov. 24 through the end of the year.
The Newton company will select the charities through a nomination process on its website and through Facebook and Twitter. Chalet rental fees start at $5,400 for the entire period, according to Millennial’s website.
“This year we want to give back to our partners and the people of Boston, so we’re dedicating one chalet to be used on rotational basis by as many as five charities to connect and promote themselves to Bostonians visiting the market,” Millennial CEO Lena Romanova said in a statement.
Millennial is increasing its number of Boston Winter vendors to 90, up from the 44 that sold food, clothing, jewelry and other merchandise in its debut season last year.
Boston Garden Development Corp., a subsidiary of Delaware North Companies that operates Boston Winter, declined comment on coming attractions for this year’s version of Boston Winter. But a spokesman for Millennial said it will feature a maze of 200 Christmas trees that will bring the story of Christmas to life by allowing visitors to search for the symbols of the 12 days of Christmas.
Last year, Boston Winter included an 11,000-square-foot outdoor skating path winding around the plaza.
