Janina M. Murphy, at 94, resident of Marblehead

Janina M. (Chmielewsk­i) Murphy of Marblehead died Sept. 28 at her home. She was 94.

She was born, raised and educated in Somerville.

She was a graduate of Somerville High School.

Mrs. Murphy worked for the War Department in Washington, D.C., during World War II.

She later worked as a bookkeeper at Tom’s Service Center in Saugus for 15 years and at Barrett & Turner Dairy Co. in Malden for more than 20 years.

She lived in Melrose for more than 50 years and moved to Marblehead six years ago.

Mrs. Murphy was a longtime communican­t of St. Mary’s Church in Melrose, where she taught CCD, was a lecturer and a member of St. Mary’s Ladies Sodality.

She was also an editor for the “Myrtle Street Journal.”

Mrs. Murphy was an avid reader and a talented artist who enjoyed painting, crafts, sculpting, making clothes for her family, taking trips to Cape Cod, Hampton Beach, Scarboroug­h, Maine, Newport, R.I., and Vermont.

Wife of the late Robert P., she is survived by three sons, Robert P. Jr. of Moultonbor­ough, N.H., Gary W. of Pennsylvan­ia and Kevin C. of South Boston; two daughters, Janina M. Glabicky of Marblehead and Christine M. Daugsiewic­z of Melrose; 10 grandchild­ren, two great-grandchild­ren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at St. Mary’s Church, Melrose.

Interment will be in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
