Janina M. Murphy, at 94, resident of Marblehead
Janina M. (Chmielewski) Murphy of Marblehead died Sept. 28 at her home. She was 94.
She was born, raised and educated in Somerville.
She was a graduate of Somerville High School.
Mrs. Murphy worked for the War Department in Washington, D.C., during World War II.
She later worked as a bookkeeper at Tom’s Service Center in Saugus for 15 years and at Barrett & Turner Dairy Co. in Malden for more than 20 years.
She lived in Melrose for more than 50 years and moved to Marblehead six years ago.
Mrs. Murphy was a longtime communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Melrose, where she taught CCD, was a lecturer and a member of St. Mary’s Ladies Sodality.
She was also an editor for the “Myrtle Street Journal.”
Mrs. Murphy was an avid reader and a talented artist who enjoyed painting, crafts, sculpting, making clothes for her family, taking trips to Cape Cod, Hampton Beach, Scarborough, Maine, Newport, R.I., and Vermont.
Wife of the late Robert P., she is survived by three sons, Robert P. Jr. of Moultonborough, N.H., Gary W. of Pennsylvania and Kevin C. of South Boston; two daughters, Janina M. Glabicky of Marblehead and Christine M. Daugsiewicz of Melrose; 10 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at St. Mary’s Church, Melrose.
Interment will be in Wyoming Cemetery, Melrose.
