PICK THE RIGHT HUES FOR CHIC AUTUMN LOOK

- By GRETTA MONAHAN

October has proven to be a month filled with beautiful, warm weather. It's been so nice out that it's been tough letting go of summer beauty trends and making that full transition to an autumn palette. But with November quickly approaching, I can now say that I'm so ready for a color scheme change. And switching out your range of hues can be as easy as swapping iced coffee for hot pumpkin spice latte.

While there are no rules to beauty, here are a few tips you can take to update your look from a warm-weather palette to a fall one, and hit all the trends at the same time.

One of the key differences starts with your base. In the warmer months, dewy skin is all the rage and showing a healthy glow is the goal. Once the colder months settle in, a matte finish is preferred. The new Fenty Beauty by Rihanna Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation ($34 at sephora. com) is the perfect amount of coverage and matte finish for a cool autumn day. It comes in 40 shades, so finding your perfect match is a cinch.

Moving on to the next palette change: blush. Summertime colors consist of pinks and corals, to give you that light flush of color — almost like a faint sunburn. Now that the sun isn't as harsh, it's time to pull out some rosy hues or a deep plum shade to give your paler skin tone a darker hue for some contrast. The Charlotte Tilbury Cheek to Chic blushers ($40 at Nordstrom) give you those deeper tones as they consist of two shades that make a perfect color when you swirl them together.

One of the most important color transitions is eyeshadow. Autumn is the perfect season for brown smoky eyes and matte eyeshadow looks with a pop of shimmer in the middle. For fall, I would recommend using warmtoned browns to really make your eyes pop and give them liveliness. Find a palette that also uses some coppers, red browns and maybe a burnt orange, and you will be all set to make a range of fall eye looks. Tarte's new Tartelette Toasted Eyeshadow

Palette ($46 at ultra.com) has all the warm-toned browns you could want, and there are five shimmering colors to add some sparkle to your look.

To finish everything off, you need some fall-inspired lips. Lipstick brings an entire look together; it either serves as the statement color on your face or it gives your lips a muted color to bring the focus to your eyes. Now it's not quite time for dark, vampy lips, but fall is certainly the time to switch to deeper toned nudes and start introducing some browns and cranberries into the mix.

I would say that matte liquid lipsticks are the way to go, since they're easy and incredibly pigmented, but lipgloss is also making a comeback, so you might want a few of those in your purse as well. Lime Crime Velvetines Matte Lipstick come in many shades perfect for autumn ($20 at bloomingdales.com). I would recommend shades such as Teddy Bear, Sasha or Shroom if you're having trouble deciding. As for glosses, you can't go wrong with YSL’s

Glossy Stain Lip Color ($36 at bloomingdales.com). These come in more red/pink tones, so if you're ready for a bright red glossy lip, this is the one to choose.
