Cubs to give hook to pitching coach Bosio
Chris Bosio is out as the Chicago Cubs pitching coach after six seasons.
A person familiar with the situation said the team will not pick up his contract option for next season. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because the move has not been announced.
Bosio’s dismissal comes after the Cubs were eliminated by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL Championship Series.
Bosio worked under three managers in Chicago and helped oversee a transformation of the pitching staff that contributed to a drought-busting World Series championship last year and three straight trips to the NLCS.
But the bullpen faltered in the playoffs this year. President of baseball operations Theo Epstein also pointed to season-long control issues in a news conference on Friday.
Bell wins first Xfinity race
Christopher Bell raced to his first NASCAR Xfinity Series victory, beating dominant Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Erik Jones after they made contract with four laps left at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kan.
Bell led for just those four laps, hanging in second place behind Jones for much of the race before sliding in front of him shortly before the collision. After watching his teammate control the race for so long, the finish came as a surprise for Bell.
“I didn’t think winning was a possibility,” Bell said.
U.S. falls in Under-17 World Cup

Josh Sargent scored in the 72nd minute, his third goal of the tournament for the Americans.
Man City stays unbeaten
Manchester City comfortably beat Burnley, 3-0, to remain the only unbeaten side in the English Premier League after Manchester United lost at Huddersfield, 2-1. It was the first time in 65 years that Huddersfield beat United, which was made to pay dearly for defensive errors.
Chelsea came from behind to beat Watford, 4-2, thanks to two late goals, and avoided a third straight league defeat . . . .
Barcelona regained a four-point cushion atop the Spanish league with a ho-hum 2-0 win over visiting Malaga and surging Valencia dismissed Sevilla, 4-0, at home.
Seldom-used Gerard Deulofeu opened the scoring for Barcelona after just two minutes, and Andres Iniesta celebrated his first of the season in the second half thanks to a brilliant assist by Lionel Messi ....
Napoli’s perfect start to Serie A finally came to an end in an enthralling 0-0 home draw with Inter Milan, the only other unbeaten side in the Italian top flight.
There were plenty of chances at the San Paolo, and Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic was kept busier than his Napoli counterpart Pepe Reina.
