Pats rookie Langi aided injured wife after car crash, say cops

- By CHRIS VILLANI

Patriots rookie linebacker Harvey Langi pressed napkins to his wife Cassidy’s neck as she bled profusely, after a Millis man driving an estimated 50 mph slammed his Jeep into the back of their car, with prescription drugs and an open nip bottle in his vehicle, according to a police report released yesterday.

Foxboro police responding to the three-car crash on Oct. 13 found the Langis trapped in their 2011 Mazda, which had been stopped at a red light in the left-turn lane on Commercial Street at Fisher Street in Foxboro.

A 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Kevin M. Conroy, 25, allegedly rear-ended them, pinning them between the Jeep and the 2007 Toyota in front of them, police said. Conroy is charged with possession of a Class E substance, which is a felony, as well as negligent operation of a motor vehicle, a marked lane violation and possession of an open container of alcohol.

“When I approached the Mazda I observed two occupants (driver Havea“Harvey” Langi and passenger Cassidy Langi) who appeared to have sustained serious injuries,” wrote Foxboro patrolman Stephen J. Easter in his report. “The vehicle was so badly damaged it appeared they were both trapped inside the car . ... I observed the passenger, Cassidy was bleeding profusely from what appeared to be her neck area. Havea was holding napkins to her neck to try to stop the bleeding.”

Five people, three occupants in the Toyota and the Langis, were taken to area hospitals. Conroy and his passenger escaped injury, police said.

Conroy passed field sobriety tests at the scene and his blood-alcohol content was measured at 0.00, but police said they found an open “nip” bottle of Fireball whiskey in plain view on the rear floor of the jeep, the police report states. Conroy also had the pain medication Gabapentin, anti-psychotic Quetiapine and muscle relaxant Baclofen on him at the time of the crash, police said.

Conroy acknowledged the pills were his and claimed to have had a prescription for them, police said. The pills in the car were “leftovers mixed up in the bag,” said Conroy, according to police

Conroy’s license was revoked indefinitely after the crash, because he was viewed as an “immediate threat,” authorities said. His driving record includes a suspension while he completed a DWI alcohol program in 2016 and multiple surchargeable incidents.

“I asked Conroy what happened, and he began rambling on saying ‘I don’t know this area, I was going straight and these cars just stopped in front of me,’ ” Fitzgerald wrote in his report.

Langi, a rookie from Brigham Young University, signed with the Patriots as an undrafted free agent after this year’s NFL draft.

Langi was released from the hospital last weekend. He posted a video on Instagram Sunday night showing his wife with a walker sitting on the couch of their home.

“Welcome home, baby,” Langi said on the video. “We are finally home.”
