Senators complete sweep in Stockholm

Mike Hoffman and the Ottawa Senators made the most of their short stay in Sweden.

Hoffman scored two goals to help the Senators beat the Colorado Avalanche, 4-3, yesterday in Stockholm for a sweep of their two regular-season games in the Swedish capital as part of the NHL Global Series.

Mark Stone and Johnny Oduya also scored for Ottawa, which trailed 3-2 after two periods. Defenseman Erik Karlsson had two assists, giving the captain 17 points in 11 games this season.

Oduya, a Stockholm native, drove a slap shot by Jonathan Bernier at 7:01 of the third, tying it at 3-all and delighting the crowd of more than 13,000. Hoffman got the game-winning goal on a one-timer on a power play with 6:37 left.

Alexander Kerfoot and Sven Andrighett­o each had a goal and an assist for the Avalanche, who have dropped three in a row. Bernier finished with 36 saves.

Canadiens 2, Sabres 1 — Max Pacioretty scored at 3:08 of overtime to give host Montreal the win over Buffalo.

Andrew Shaw also scored and Charlie Lindgren made 34 saves for the Canadiens, who have won four of five. Ryan O’Reilly scored for the Sabres.

Blackhawks 4, Hurricanes 3 — In Raleigh, N.C., Brandon Saad scored at 1:44 of overtime to give Chicago the win over Carolina.

Alex DeBrincat scored two goals and Gustav Forsling had one for the Blackhawks, who scored three times after falling behind 3-1. Anton Forsberg had 35 saves.

Brock McGinn had two goals and Jeff Skinner scored one for Carolina. Scott Darling, who spent the previous three seasons with Chicago, stopped 26 shots.

Predators 5, Penguins 4 — Filip Forsberg scored the shootout winner to give host Nashville the win over Pittsburgh in a rematch of last season’s Stanley Cup Final.

The Predators won for the fourth straight game, while the Penguins have lost four of its last five games.

Kyle Turris had a goal and an assist in his Predators debut, after arriving from Ottawa in a threeway trade earlier in the week. P.K. Subban, Craig Smith and Calle Jarnkrok also scored in regulation for Nashville. Bryan Rust, Phil Kessel, Jake Guentzel and Brian Dumoulin countered for Pittsburgh.

Rangers 4, Oilers 2 — New York used two second-period powerplay goals to beat visiting Edmonton for its sixth straight win.

Rick Nash scored twice, and Pavel Buchnevich and Michael Grabner had the other goals for the Rangers. Henrik Lundqvist made 26 saves.

Jesse Puljujarvi and Connor McDavid scored and Cam Talbot made 30 saves as the Oilers fell to the Rangers for the fourth consecutiv­e time.

Devils 2, Panthers 1 — In Newark, N.J., Cory Schneider made 32 saves to help New Jersey top Florida.

Damon Severson and Kyle Palmieri scored for the Devils, who had dropped four in a row. James Reimer made 19 stops and Nick Bjugstad scored the lone goal for the Panthers, who have lost seven of 10.

Blue Jackets 2, Red Wings 1 — Jack Johnson scored in the ninth round of the shootout to give Columbus the victory in Detroit to halt a four-game losing streak

Artemi Panarin scored for the Blue Jackets in regulation, and Andreas Athanasiou replied for the Red Wings, who had their run of shootout victories end at 12 straight.

Wild 1, Flyers 0 — Jason Zucker scored his sixth goal in three games 1:06 into the final frame and Devan Dubnyk made 32 saves for his second straight shutout to give Minnesota the victory in Philadelph­ia.

Islanders 5, Blues 2 — John Tavares scored early to start New York’s three-goal first period and Thomas Greiss stopped 35 shots to win in St. Louis.

Jets 4, Coyotes 1 — In Glendale, Ariz., Mark Scheifele broke a 1-1 tie early in the third period and Winnipeg pulled away from Arizona.

Sharks 5, Canucks 0 — Logan Couture and Chris Tierney both scored twice and Aaron Dell stopped 41 shots as host San Jose blanked Vancouver.
