Saugus police last night were searching for a man who carjacked a cab after running out of a store — possibly with stolen merchandise.

About 6:45 p.m., Saugus police got a call from Dick’s Sporting Goods about a man who had run out of the store on Broadway, possibly carrying merchandise.

The man then approached a gray 2008 Ford Fusion belonging to Garcia’s Taxi, smashed the driver’s side window, forced out the driver, then got in and drove off in the direction of Essex Street.

The taxi has Massachusetts license plate 412c.

No injuries were reported.

Police described the suspect as a white man in his 30s, last seeing wearing a black hat and black jacket.

Anyone with information is asked to immediately call their local police department or Saugus police at 781-9411199.
