Be open about aging

-

Linda Chavez commented on reports of George H.W. Bush inappropriately touching or making crude jokes to several women, apparently during photo shoots (“Bush family should be frank about 41’s mental state,” Oct. 30), I agree that all signs point to a cognitive decline in the former president, meaning the alleged behavior is more due to aging rather than anything of a darker nature, which would contradict the entirety of his public life.

I also believe if anyone is trying to equate this man’s behavior with the predatory actions of others in the news, such as Harvey Weinstein or Bill Cosby, they are grossly misinformed.

Chavez was correct in pointing out that the Bush family has an opportunity to convey a reality of life, aging. Moreover, I have little doubt that the women who had this happen to them would feel better and, hopefully, the rest of us could get an insight or two. — David Ormandy, Rochester, N.Y.
