Jenny's go-to drink spawned Blondies vodka

-

Actress Jenny McCarthy joined Boston Herald Radio’s “Adriana Cohen Show” yesterday to talk about her new vodka, Blondies.

Q: So tell us about this new product you have out now, Blondies by Jenny.

A: I’m so excited about it because it’s kind of my first entrepreneurial creation on my own. It was something that came out of not having my own kind of drink.

You know how everyone goes out with friends and are like, “What do you want to drink?” I didn’t have my go-to drink, because I’m allergic to pretty much everything in the world, like gluten, which is beer, so beer, wine and vodka. Can you imagine being allergic to all of those things and being Irish?

So I started to make my own cocktails at home using those Emergen-C packets. So I would take that and I’d put it with water and I’d mix it with a little gluten-free vodka and I’d make this drink and I thought it was genius because it had electrolytes in it so I wouldn’t get hung over, it had no sugar in it so I wouldn’t get fat.

And I thought, “You know what? I’m so tired of having to make this on my own. Let me see if I can find a distillery because if I love it and I need this drink I wonder how many other people do.”

So I found a distillery and said, “You know what? Can you give me all these things, including no artificial colors and no artificial flavors and no preservatives,” because a lot of those mixed drinks, if you ever had some, they get sugary after a while. And you’re like, “Oh my God. I can only have one of these six margaritas because the sugar content is insane.”

So I wanted something that’s really fresh and has no preservatives. I found the distillery to be authentic in all of those areas and we did it and it came out Blondies. All I’ve got to do is pour it, that’s it.

Q: Is there anything in there that’ll prevent you from getting a hangover, like you were mentioning? So does it have electrolytes in it or some sort of vitamin?

A: I love that you said that, too, because when I went to the company I said, “Can you put vitamins and like my Emergen-C packets in there to have electrolytes, because electrolytes will help with a hangover?” and they said, “It’s actually illegal to put electrolytes or vitamins in a drink, but wait,” they go, “we figured something out because we put our heads together and said, how could we make this happen?” and they did.

They did it by using coconut water, which has electrolytes in it. So the base is made with coconut water, but we pulled that coconut flavor out and we’re just left with all the electrolyte water.

So essentially we did do it, we just did it legally.
