A GREEN STREAK

-

While the Celtics’ 13-game winning streak has a ways to go to top the NBA record of 33 set by the Los Angeles Lakers in 1971-72, it is tied for the seventh best in team history. That streak will be threatened tonight when the

Celtics host the reigning champion Golden State Warriors. Here’s a look at the top Celtics streaks:

19: 2008-09

Dates: Nov. 15-Dec. 25, 2008

Skinny: Fresh off an NBA title, the C's forged the best start in franchise history by going 27-2. Kevin Garnett's season-ending injury thwarted hopes of a repeat.

18: 1981-82

Dates: Feb. 24-March 28, 1982

Skinny: Coming off a championship the year before, this team had lost 4-of-7 before ripping off 18 straight. A very good 76ers team put an end to the streak as well as back-to-back title hopes by beating the C's in the conference finals.

17: 1959-60

Dates: Nov. 28, 1959-Jan. 1, 1960

Skinny: The Bill Russell-led Celtics were 10 games better than their closest competition in the eightteam NBA and went on to win their second of eight straight titles.

16: 1964-65

Dates: Dec. 19, 1964-Jan. 23, 1965

Skinny: Red Auerbach's group won its first 11 games and didn't look back on the way to a seventh straight NBA title over favorite whipping boy, the Lakers.

14: 1985-86

Dates: March 11-April 6, 1986

Skinny: The greatest Celtics team? This group also had win streaks of 13, 9, 8 and 8 en route to winning the title.

14: 1957-58

Dates: Oct. 22-Nov. 28, 1957

Skinny: The 1957-58 Celtics started the season 14-0 before losing to the Knicks in a game played in Philadelphia. They went on to lose to the St. Louis Hawks in the NBA finals.

13: 2017-18

Dates: Oct. 20

Skinny: After losing their first two games of the season — and star free-agent pickup Gordon Hayward for the season — the Celtics have used a stingy defense and a team concept to win their next 13 heading into tonight's game vs. Golden State.
