Smokin’ Leafs clobber Habs

Ron Hainsey and Nazem Kadri scored 37 seconds apart in the second period, Frederik Andersen stopped 33 shots for his second straight shutout, and the redhot Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Canadiens, 6-0, last night in Montreal to post their sixth straight win.

Auston Matthews, back after missing four games with an upper-body injury, had two goals, and James van Riemsdyk and Connor Brown also scored for Toronto.

Charlie Lindgren finished with 22 saves for the Canadiens, giving up five goals for the second straight game. He was replaced at 9:39 of the third by Antti Niemi, who stopped three of four shots in his first game for Montreal since he was claimed off waivers this week.

Coyotes 3, Senators 2 — Anthony Duclair scored in overtime to complete a hat trick and Arizona beat host Ottawa for its second straight victory.

Duclair scored at 1:23 of overtime, his shot trickling through the pads of Senators goalie Mike Condon and over the goal line. Antti Raanta made 30 saves to help the Coyotes improve to 4-15-3.

Mark Stone and Mark Borowiecki scored for the Senators, and Condon stopped 25 shots.

Islanders 5, Lightning 3 —

Anders Lee scored twice and visiting New York held on after nearly blowing a fourgoal lead to beat Tampa Bay.

John Tavares had a goal and two assists, and Andrew Ladd and Brock Nelson also scored for the Islanders, who ended Tampa Bay’s five-game winning streak.

Yanni Gourde had two goals and Ondrej Palat had the other for the Lightning, as stars Steven Stamkos and Nikita Kucherov were both held without a point for just the third time this season.

Hurricanes 3, Sabres 1 —

Sebastian Aho scored with 4:45 remaining to lift Carolina over host Buffalo for its third straight win.

Justin Williams and Joakim Nordstrom (empty-netter) had the other goals and Scott Darling made 24 saves for the Hurricanes. Evander Kane scored for the Sabres, who have lost five straight.

Blackhawks 2, Penguins 1 — Artem Anisimov scored a power-play goal in the third period, and visiting Chicago won its eighth straight against Pittsburgh.

Corey Crawford, who briefly left the game in the second period with an upper body injury, made 35 saves for the Blackhawks, including a right-pad stop on Phil Kessel in the final 20 seconds.

After missing 15 games with a concussion, Matt Hunwick scored for the Penguins.

Capitals 3, Wild 1 — Alex Ovechkin returned from taking a puck to the face, T.J. Oshie had a goal and an assist and host Washington snapped Minnesota’s fourgame winning streak with its fifth straight win at home.

Stars 6, Oilers 3 — Ben Bishop pitched a shutout over the last 39 minutes after Kari Lehtonen was pulled, making 17 stops as host Dallas beat Edmonton.

Flames 5, Flyers 4 — Sean Monahan had the first hat trick of his NHL career and Michael Frolik scored 1:18 into overtime as visiting Calgary dealt Philadelph­ia its fourth straight defeat.

Jets 5, Devils 2 — Patrik Laine, Jacob Trouba and Matt Hendricks scored in a 95-second span, and host Winnipeg beat New Jersey for its fourth straight win.

Kings 4, Panthers 0 — Backup goaltender Darcy Kuemper stopped 24 shots for his eighth career shutout, while Johnny Brodzinski scored his first NHL goal to lead host Los Angeles over Florida.

Predators 5, Avalanche 2— Craig Smith had a goal and an assist, Pekka Rinne made 29 saves and host Nashville beat Colorado for the eighth straight time.
