An 18-year-old dishwasher at a Peabody restaurant is due in court next week for a dangerousness hearing after he was accused of trying to kill the head chef.

Rogerio Silva Thomaz Dos Reis of Peabody was arraigned yesterday in Peabody District Court on charges of assault to murder, assault with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. He was held without bail pending a hearing on Monday to determine whether he is too dangerous to be released on bail.

Dos Reis is also the subject of an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer, according to the Salem News.

His father, Rogerio Teixeira, 54, also of Peabody, was ordered held on $5,000 bail after pleading not guilty to being an accessory after the fact by helping his son flee after the stabbing.

Shortly before 1:30 p.m. Sunday, officers went to Century House Restaurant on Andover Street on a report of two employees fighting in the kitchen. When they arrived, they found a blood-covered butcher knife and the chef suffering from a stab wound to the stomach, according to a police report.

He was rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he was later reported to be in stable condition after surgery, but on a ventilator.

Employees told the officers that Dos Reis, whom they knew only by his nickname, “Hanjero,” had left with his father, who was also a dishwasher at the restaurant, the report said. The father was identified from a copy of his permanent resident card and a fake Social Security card that he had given to the owner, police said.

A cook told officers he had walked into the kitchen and heard the chef scream, “He stabbed me!” as he used a push cart to try to keep Dos Reis at bay, the police report said. The victim then slipped and fell to one knee as Dos Reis continued to swing the knife at him, the cook told police.

A prep cook told officers he grabbed Dos Reis’s arm and pulled him back until Teixeira ran over, grabbed his son, took the knife and put it on a table, and then left through a back door with him, the police report said.

A neighbor of the father and son led officers to their friend’s house, where the two were arrested, police said.

The first cook “believed that this all started due to the fact that (the chef) was just attempting to make Rogerio properly do his job,” the police report said.
