Duo delivers for Crimson

Lewis, Aiken score 21 apiece

Chris Lewis and Bryce Ai- ken scored 21 points apiece to lead Harvard to a 77-71 victory over Saint Joseph’s yesterday in the Wooden Legacy tournament in Fullerton, Calif.

Lewis was 9-of-12 from the field. Aiken was 5-of-13 shooting from the floor and made 10-of-12 free throws to go with a career-high eight assists. Robert Baker scored a career-best 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for his first career double-double for Harvard (3-3).

James Demery had 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead Saint Joseph’s (2-3).

Utah State 71, Northeaste­rn 67 — Vasa Pusica went 6-for-8 from downtown en route to a career-best 27 points, but the Huskies (2-3) could not rally past the Aggies (3-3) in the PK80 Challenge at Nashville, Tenn.

NU had a 33-32 lead at the break, and quickly pushed the lead to five, but Utah State used a 7-0 run to take a 56-50 lead. The Aggies’ lead was eight with 38 seconds to go, but Devon Begley had a three-point play and Pusica sank a free throw and then hit his last 3 to make it a one-point game with nine seconds to go.

Utah State, led by Sam Merrill’s 19 points, was able to inbound and sink free throws to seal it.

Minnesota 69, UMass 51 — Jordan Murphy scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds to spark the No.14 Golden Gophers (6-0) over the Minutemen (3-2) in the first game of the Barclays Center Classic in New York.

Luwane Pipkins had 18 points to lead UMass.

Virginia 70, Rhode Island 55 — Isaiah Wilkins scored a career-high 19 points as the Cavaliers (6-0) pulled away in the second half to beat the Rams (3-2) to win the Preseason NIT in New York.

Andre Berry led URI with 12 points while Jarvis Garrett added 11, but Jared Terrell was held to 11 points on 4-of-11 shooting.

In Top 25 action:

Duke 85, Texas 78 — Freshman Marvin Bagley III had a career-high 34 points and added 15 rebounds, and the No. 1 Blue Devils rallied from 16 down in the second half to defeat the Longhorns (4-1) in overtime in the semifinals of the PK80 Invitation­al in Portland, Ore.

Villanova 64, Northern Iowa 50 — Mikal Bridges scored 18 points, and Jalen Brunson added 16 and was named tourney MVP as the No.5 Wildcats (6-0) pulled away down the stretch to beat the Panthers (5-2) in the Battle 4 Atlantis final in Paradise Island, Bahamas.

Arizona State 102, Xavier 86 — Tra Holder scored a career-high 40 points to lead the Sun Devils (6-0) to the upset of the No.15 Musketeers (5-1) in the championsh­ip game of the Las Vegas Invitation­al.

Louisville 84, Saint Francis (Pa.) 72 — Ray Spalding had 19 points and a career-high 13 rebounds before leaving midway through the second half with an injury as the No. 19 Cardinals (4-0) held off the Red Flash (2-3) in Louisville, Ky.

Washington State 84, Saint Mary’s 79 — Malachi Flynn scored 26 points and the Cougars (5-0) held off the No.21 Gaels (5-1) to reach the title game of the Wooden Legacy in Fullerton, Calif.

Women’s basketball

Northeaste­rn 64, UMass 54 — Jess Genco had 18 points, four assists and three steals as the Huskies (3-2) used a 27-6 run to begin the second half to put down Hailey Leidel (17 points) and the Minutewome­n (2-3) in the opening game of the UMass Thanksgivi­ng Classic in Amherst.

Men’s hockey

UMass 2, Quinnipiac 1 — Mario Ferraro broke a 1-1 tie four minutes into the second period, and Ryan Wischow had 11 of his 32 saves in the final frame as the Minutemen (6-6-0) beat the Bobcats (5-6-1) in a nonleague affair in Hamden, Conn.

Providence 3, Maine 0 — Fourth-line winger Ryan Tait scored twice and Hayden Hawkey made 24 saves as the No. 10 Friars (8-4-1, 5-3-1 Hockey East) blanked the Black Bears (47-0, 3-4-0) in the Friendship Four in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Bentley 3, Robert Morris 1 — Power-play tallies by Connor Brassard and Drew Callin in the first period were all the Falcons (2-73, 2-6-3) needed, as Aidan Pelino made 31 saves to shut down the Colonials (5-8-1, 5-6-1) in an Atlantic Hockey game in Watertown.

Arizona State 3, Holy Cross 1— Joey Daccord of North Andover made 30 saves to outduel Spencer Trapp (28 stops) as the Sun Devils (38-2) beat the Crusaders (5-45) in Worcester.

Women’s hockey

Northeaste­rn 3, Wisconsin 2 — Aerin Frankle had 39 saves and Tori Sullivan had a goal and an assist as the Huskies (8-7-2) stunned the top-ranked Badgers (16-1-0) at the D1 in DC Tournament in Arlington, Va.

McKenna Brand and Codie Cross also scored for NU, which was outshot by a 41-18 margin, including 32-8 over the final two periods, but never trailed. The Huskies also killed all five Wisconsin power plays, including a 5-on-3 early in the third period.

Boston University 5, Minnesota State 2 — Victoria Bach notched a hat trick and added an assist, and Nina Rodgers scored twice to power the Terriers (5-6-2) over the Mavericks (2-12-1) at the D1 in DC Tournament in Arlington, Va.
