Hill decries Republicans

Used speech to speak about current climate

Hillary Clinton in Boston last night called the GOP tax bill an “abomination,” skewered President Trump for “playing right into Russia’s hands” and blamed Fox News for altering campaigns as we know it in a triple broadside against Republicans.

The 2016 Democratic presidential candidate — in town as part of a tour promoting her book, “What Happened” — pinged between topics before a

friendly, sold-out audience at the Boston Opera House, but spent chunks of her hour-plus on stage lambasting the GOP that now controls Congress, the Senate and the White House.

On the Republican tax reform bill, Clinton warned it “busts open the deficit” and tilts the economy “even more unequally” to the country’s richest. “It’s an abomination,” Clinton said to cheers. “It should be protested against every way that we can.”

Clinton said the role Russia played in the 2016 should not be downplayed, and rapped Trump for comments he made this month, saying he “believes” Putin means it when he said he didn’t play a role in interfering with the 2016 election.

“Our president has said he believes Vladimir Putin over the U.S. intelligence community,” Clinton said. “Once again he is playing right into Russia’s hands and this is shameful . ... He should do his job.”

Asked how campaigns have changed since her husband Bill Clinton won the White House in 1992, Clinton cited the rise of Fox News, which she said has “fed conspiracy theories and enemies and dramatic coverage of events, whether they are significant or not,” to its audience.

“(It) has really altered a significant number of American’s views about politics,” she said.

Clinton also had words for her own party, which she warned should not focus just on economic equality as a rallying cry.

Clinton’s failed race dominated headlines again earlier this month when former Democratic National Committee chairwoman Donna Brazile accused the Clinton campaign and party leaders of “unethical” financial dealings during the run-up to the convention, drawing complaints that the process was “rigged” against Bernie Sanders.

Clinton — who Brazile and others have accused of financially taking control of the party before the primary — didn’t address the criticism head on, but said Republicans have done a far better job building a system to support candidates.

“I inherited very little, practically nothing, from the DNC,” she said. “We practically had to bail it out.”
