Baker’s re-election brand: bipartisan
I don’t know what’s more disappointing, that all of us will have no choice except to vote to re-elect Charlie Baker next year, or that Tall
Deval knows that we have nowhere to go.
I think probably the latter. How many times has Tall Deval — or Faker Baker, if you prefer that moniker — expressed his “disappointment” in President Trump? Well, how disappointed does he think many of us are in his disappointing disappointment of a first term? It doesn’t matter what his favorability ratings are, what the hell has he done?
This guy is not just a Republican in Name Only — a RINO. Charlie Baker is a RINO’s RINO.
His official announcement yesterday was very big on the “b” word — bipartisan, as in “bipartisan work” and “bipartisan achievements.”
In case you were wondering, the synonym for “bipartisan” is “Democrat.”
Forty percent pay raises for the Legislature — bipartisan. Transgender bathrooms — ditto. Letting illegal immigrant fentanyl dealers run amok at the Registry of Motor Vehicles — can’t get any more bipartisan than that!
Yesterday Senate Presi- dent Stanley C. Rosenberg said, “Too bad he’s not a Democrat.”
You could have fooled me, Mr. President.
Here’s a typical example of the Tall Deval era. With great fanfare this week, he signs legislation to “crack down” on handicapped placard fraud. Wonderful, yet another feel-good photo op. Does anyone think this will have even the slightest impact on fakers parking close to the mall this Christmas season?
How about the “opioid crisis?” There is one, don’t get me wrong, but why is his emphasis solely on getting Dr. Feelgood to prescribe Grandma 10 rather than 20 Percocets?
Whenever anyone mentions, say, the BPD report that the local heroin and fentanyl trade is dominated by Dominican gangs, Tall Deval goes under his desk faster than if someone mentions “Judge Timothy Bibaud and his lovely daughter, Alli.”
God forbid there should be a serious discussion about who’s really dealing most of the heroin in this state. That would be politically incorrect. The truth might get Tall Deval a negative editorial in some alt-left newspaper that nobody reads anymore. His neighbors in Swampscott might be … disappointed — at least those few that he hasn’t yet appointed to the bench.
I’m trying to imagine how different it would be if Marsha Coakley had been elected back in 2014. I’m drawing a blank. OK, she would have signed the pay raise bill that Charlie vetoed — although he made no announcement of his plans until it was clear that the hacks had the votes to override his “veto.”
Once Tall Deval knew his gesture would be meaningless, he took a courageous stand against the obscene hikes. All the Republican hacks in the House leadership got taken care of, too. You can’t get any more bipartisan than that.
And now the election is less than a year away.
To paraphrase Harry S. Truman, if you give people a choice between a Democrat and a Democrat, they’ll vote for the Democrat every time.
I guess I’ll be voting for the Democrat named Baker.
