CHILDREN’S HONORS CHAMPIONS AT GALA
Boston Children’s Hospital played host at its annual Champions for Children’s gala, where athletes and ownership from New England’s professional sports teams gathered last night to show their support.
While you may normally catch your favorite athletes working the field or owning the court, they were dominating the Seaport World Trade Center at yesterday evening’s event, now in its 20th year.
Among the sporty guys spotted at the fundraiser were a pack of Patriots players, past and present. The football player guests included defensive end Derek Rivers, defensive tackle Adam Butler, wide receiver Brandin Cooks, former offensive tackle Sebastian Vollmer and exlinebacker Vernon Crawford.
Celtics guard Marcus Smart also strolled into the shindig, where he was getting special attention. This year, Boston Children’s Hospital honored the player with the 2017 Champion Award. It was meant to recognize his support for the hospital over the past few years.
Sandra Fenwick, president and CEO of Boston Children’s Hospital, was also working the room, and WCVB Channel 5 anchor Ed Harding assumed the role of emcee for the evening’s festivities.
After the cocktail portion of the programming, attendees enjoyed dinner and auctions — of both the live and silent varieties.
During the live auction, people could bid on some major sporty experiences, like a game of street hockey with Bruins stars Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand, separate chances to travel with the Celtics and the Patriots and watch them play an away game. Also up for bid were a luxury suit in TD Garden during U2’s June 21 concert and a VIP experience to a Fenway Park concert of the winner’s choice.
