Improve your skills

-

There really is not a level of skier or rider who does not have more to learn; that's something wickedly cool about the sport. Did you check out Mikaela Shiffrin winning the World Cup at Killington last weekend? She's pretty much the best in the world right now, and you know what she does on off days? Learns more. Truth.

The obvious and easy way to raise your skill level is by taking a lesson. Private lessons are amazing since you can focus on exactly what needs improving. But group lessons are just as great and most resorts are masters at placing you in just the right group. Planning a ski or ride day? Call ahead and book a lesson first. You won't regret it.

But to take it up another notch, make this the year you set aside time to attend a ski camp. They are out there for every level skier and rider, and focus on either particular goals or a broader theme of improving overall on the snow. Black diamond skiers who want to get even better or expand their terrain to, say, wicked bumps, can do no better than The Essential Elements: Black Diamond Club at Sugarbush in Vermont. Essential Elements meets on Saturdays for sessions of three weeks and is offered three times in the season. For a one-time camp experience for women, Sugarbush's Women's Camp, offered a few times each season, takes skiers, intermediate and up, and coaches them to whatever next level they are looking for. You can learn more about both at www.sugarbush.com.
