No. 12 NU drops HE game at UConn

The Northeaste­rn men’s hockey team, ranked 12th nationally, was upended by Connecticu­t last night, 4-1, in Storrs, Conn.

UConn (6-10-2, 4-6-1 Hockey East) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period behind tallies from Maxim Letunov, Johnny Austin and Jesse Schwartz. Dylan Sikura scored for NU (7-5-1, 5-3-0) in the second period, but Alexander Payusov reestablis­hed the three-goal advantage for Connecticu­t in the third.

UConn goalie Adam Huska made 26 saves to earn the win.

Bentley 3, UMass-Lowell 2

— Ryner Gorowsky scored an unassisted goal late in the overtime to push the visiting Falcons (4-7-3) past the No. 18 River Hawks (87-0) in nonconfere­nce play.

Gorowsky also assisted on Charlie Marchand’s game-tying goal in the second period. Connor Brassard scored the opening goal for Bentley.

Nick Master had a goal and assist for UMass-Lowell, and Jake Kamrass also scored.

Stonehill 4, Post 1 — In Shelton, Conn., Conor Cassidy potted a pair of goals and had an assist as the Skyhawks (4-3-1, 3-1-1 Northeast-10) eased by the winless Eagles (0-8, 0-4).

Assumption 5, Saint Anselm 2 — In Worcester, the Greyhounds (4-5-1, 1-2-1 NE-10) got two-goal efforts from Cam Laughlin and Matt Damelio to beat the Hawks (4-5-0, 1-2-0).

Women’s hockey

Boston College 7, Northeaste­rn 3 — Caitrin Lonergan registered a hat trick with two assists, and Daryl Watts had two goals and a helper, as the No. 2 Eagles (12-1-2, 6-0-1 Hockey East) flew past the Huskies (9-82, 5-5-1) at Kelley Rink.

Boston University 6, Brown 4 — Victoria Bach had two goals and three assists, Rebecca Leslie had two goals and two assists, and Jesse Compher had two goals as the Terriers (6-7-2) beat the Bears (1-10) at Walter Brown Arena.

Rhode Island 86, Brown 62 — In Kingston, R.I., Fatts Russell scored a careerhigh 20 points, Jared Terrell added 18 points with three steals, and the Rams (4-2) never trailed in the rout of the Bears (4-3).

Williams 90, Vassar 57 — In Poughkeeps­ie, N.Y., Mike Greenman’s 17 points led the Ephs (5-0), No. 3 in Division 3, as they prohibited the Brewers (0-4) from winning.

Skidmore 83, Worcester St. 67 — The No. 20 Thoroughbr­eds (4-0) kept the host Lancers (0-5), whose Shaun McCarthy had 18 points and 11 boards, winless.

MIT 88, UMass-Boston 60 — The Engineers (3-1) were led by Ian Hinkley’s 24 points, which included six 3’s, in a rout of the Beacons (3-1) at the Clark Center.

Salem St. 87, R.I. College 67 — In Providence, Drew Healy went for 18 points and 13 rebounds to power the Vikings (4-1) in a win against the Anchormen (2-4).

Wheaton 74, Framingham St. 49 — In Norton, Liam Bruno paced the rout with 17 points as the Lyons (4-2) downed the Rams (1-4).

Sage 98, MCLA 88 — In North Adams, the Gators (2-2) got by the Trailblaze­rs (1-4), who were led by Mike Demartinis’ 24 points.

In AP Top 25 action: Kansas 96, Toledo 58 — In Lawrence, Kan., Devonte Graham scored a careerhigh 35 points and the No. 2 Jayhawks (6-0 defused the Rockets (3-3) to extend their best start in seven seasons.

Wichita St. 112, Savannah St. 66 — Samajae HaynesJone­s led with 31 points but the No. 8 Shockers (5-1) lost top scorer Landry Shamet to an ankle injury in the rout of the visiting Tigers (2-6).

Xavier 76, Baylor 63 — In Cincinnati, J.P. Macura scored 15 of his 19 points in the first half, Kaiser Gates also had 19 and the No. 21 Musketeers (6-1) surged by the No. 16 Bears (5-1).

Purdue 66, Louisville 57 — In West Lafayette, Ind., Vince Edwards’ 15 points helped the Boilermake­rs (62) beat the No. 17 Cardinals (4-1) in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
