Rangers stay hot in New York

Michael Grabner scored three goals, including two late empty-netters, to lead the Rangers to a 5-1 victory over the Carolina Hurricanes last night in New York.

David Desharnais and Paul Carey also scored to help the Rangers win for the ninth time in their last 10 at home and improve to 11-3-0 in their last 14 overall.

Henrik Lundqvist made 32 saves as the Hurricanes lost their 14th consecutiv­e game at Madison Square Garden, dating back to Jan. 5, 2011.

Penguins 4, Sabres 0 — Tristan Jarry made 34 saves for his first career shutout, Sidney Crosby extended his point streak to five games and Pittsburgh won its third straight, this time in Buffalo.

The Sabres have lost 10-of-11 and gone scoreless in three straight for the first time in franchise history. The teams play in Pittsburgh tonight.

Blue Jackets 4, Ducks 2 — Josh Anderson scored late in the third period to lift Columbus over visiting Anaheim.

Anderson got his team-high 10th goal with just under five minutes left to make it 3-2. He fired the puck in off the left shoulder of goalie John Gibson. Anderson also had two assists.

Joonas Korpisalo had 25 saves, Artemi Panarin had a goal and two assists, and Brandon Dubinsky had a goal.

Devils 2, Avalanche 1 — In Denver, Brian Boyle broke a 1-1 tie when he knocked in a rebound on the power play at 13:11 of the third period, Jesper Bratt had a goal and an assist and New Jersey won defenseman Sami Vatanen’s Devils debut.

Vatanen, acquired from Anaheim on Thursday, had a team-high 22:47 of ice time.

Jets 7, Golden Knights 4 — Kyle Connor scored twice, and Mark Scheifele and Patrik Laine each had a goal and two assists in a five-goal third period as host Winnipeg beat Vegas — losers of three straight for only the second time this season — to move atop the Western Conference.

Tyler Myers, Matt Hendricks, and Nikolaj Ehlers also scored for Winnipeg, 8-0-1 in its last nine home games. Hendricks’ goal came after he left the ice briefly following a skate blade catching him in the face.

Sharks 2, Panthers 1 — In Sunrise, Fla., Chris Tierney scored in the third period to lift San Jose over Florida.

Joe Pavelski scored his 300th goal, and Aaron Dell made 39 saves for the Sharks in his second consecutiv­e start. San Jose won its third straight game.

Colton Sceviour scored for the Panthers. Roberto Luongo stopped 30 shots.

Senators 6, Islanders 5 — Ryan Dzingel’s second goal of the game snapped a tie early in the third period and Ottawa ended a seven-game losing streak with a wild win over host New York.

Zack Smith, Bobby Ryan, Thomas Chabot and Mike Hoffman also scored for the Senators, who were 0-6-1 since sweeping Colorado in two games in Stockholm.

Kings 4, Blues 1 — Tyler Toffoli scored twice, backup goaltender Darcy Kuemper made 39 saves and Los Angeles beat host St. Louis.

Los Angeles won its fourth straight, including three in a row on the road. The Kings tied the Blues for the best record in the Western Conference with 35 points.
