Schneider a Jersey barrier vs. Jackets

Stefan Noesen, Taylor Hall and Jesper Bratt each had a goal and an assist and Marblehead’s Cory Schneider stopped 41 shots to lift the New Jersey Devils past the Blue Jackets, 4-1, last night in Columbus, Ohio.

Travis Zajac also scored and rookie Nico Hischier had two assists for the Devils, one of several teams tussling with Columbus for first place in the rugged Metropolit­an Division with a third of the season in the books. Schneider was outstandin­g in earning his 100th win with New Jersey during his fifth season with the franchise.

Nick Foligno scored and Sergei Bobrovsky had 32 saves for the Blue Jackets, who lost their second straight and continued to squander opportunit­ies with the man advantage. They continue to have the NHL’s worst power play, failing to find the back of the net on a half dozen opportunit­ies last night.

Lightning 6, Islanders 2 — In Tampa, Yanni Gourde scored two of Tampa Bay’s three goals late in the second period in a win against New York.

Tampa Bay also got goals from Brayden Point, Andrej Sustr and Chris Kunitz, and Andrei Vasilevski­y made 29 saves. The Atlantic Division leaders are 11-2-1 at home.

Rangers 4, Penguins 3 — Ondrej Pavelec stopped 41 shots while filling in for late scratch Henrik Lundqvist to help visiting New York to a victory against Pittsburgh.

Buchnevich provided the game-winner when his centering pass deflected off Pittsburgh’s Kris Letang and by Tristan Jarry 11:12 into the third period.

Red Wings 5, Jets 1 — Justin Abdelkader and Gustav Nyquist scored in a dominant first period for host Detroit to help halt a seven-game slide with a victory against red-hot Winnipeg.

Predators 5, Stars 2 — Juuse Saros made a careerhigh 43 saves and his Nashville teammates scored four times in the second period to cool off host Dallas. Nashville has won three in a row and is 8-1-1 in its past 10 games. The Stars had won five straight.

Blues 4, Canadiens 3 — Brayden Schenn scored three goals as St. Louis ended a three-game winless streak with a victory over host Montreal.

Scottie Upshall also scored for St. Louis, which outshot the Canadiens 3025 and had the edge in play for most of the game.

Sabres 4, Avalanche 2 — In Denver, Jack Eichel had a goal and two assists, Evander Kane broke a third-period tie and Buffalo beat Colorado.

Benoit Pouliot and John McCabe each had a goal and an assist for Buffalo. Robin Lehner stopped 35 shots to help the Sabres end a four-game skid.

Canucks 3, Hurricanes 0 — Jacob Markstrom made 30 saves for his first NHL shutout and host Vancouver blanked Carolina.

Derrick Pouliot had a goal and two assists. Nikolay Goldobin and Thomas Vanek also scored for the Canucks, who have won three straight.

Kings 5, Wild 2 — Marian Gaborik scored twice dur- ing a four-goal third period as host Los Angeles rallied past Minnesota.

Golden Knights 4, Ducks 3 — In Las Vegas, Eric Haula had a goal and two assists, Alex Tuch converted the only goal in the shootout and Vegas edged Anaheim.
