James T. Roberts Sr., WWII Navy vet, lifelong Fall River resident, 99

James T. Roberts Sr. of Fall River, a Navy veteran of WWII, died Thursday. He was 99.

Mr. Roberts was a lifelong resident of Fall River.

He summered in Little Compton, R.I., for over 80 years.

Mr. Roberts was a 1936 graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School.

He played baseball for Sacred Heart and intermedia­te football for the Shamrocks.

He served in the Navy during WWII.

He was owner and manager of Round Meadows Campground in Little Compton, R.I., for 20 years.

Mr. Roberts worked as an instructor and salesman for Atlantic Richfield Co. (ARCO) in the New Bedford and Cape area for 30 years until retirement.

He was chairman of the Fall River Police Commission and chairman of the Fall River Licensing Board.

He was a lifelong member of the former Sacred Heart Church, the Knights of Columbus Council 3669, Swansea and lifelong member and former exalted ruler and trustee of the F.R. Elks Lodge.

Husband for 50 years of the late Rita A. (Hanson), Mr. Roberts is survived by a daughter, Judith A Martin of Little Compton, R.I.; two sons, James T. Jr. and Thomas C. of Fall River; eight grandchild­ren and five great-grandchild­ren.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Holy Name Church, Fall River.

Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
