Jimmy G simply perfect as 49ers starter

-

Jimmy Garoppolo threw for a career-high 334 yards and a touchdown to help the San Francisco 49ers to a second straight win, 26-16, yesterday over the Texans in Houston.

Garoppolo again showed he could be the answer for the 49ers at quarterback, going 20-of-33 in his second start for his new team. Acquired before the trade deadline from the Patriots, he threw for 293 yards in his debut last week as the 49ers won in Chicago.

The game was tied when Garoppolo found Garrett Celek on a 6-yard touchdown pass with two minutes left in the third quarter to make it 23-16.

Packers 27, Browns 21 — Brett Hundley threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Davante Adams in overtime as Green Bay rallied from a two-touchdown deficit in the fourth quarter to keep host Cleveland winless.

The Browns fell to 0-13 and made too many crucial mistakes to break into the win column.

The Packers hope to have star quarterback Aaron Rodgers (broken collarbone) back next Sunday.

Chargers 30, Redskins 13 — Philip Rivers passed for 319 yards and two touchdowns, and Los Angeles continued its ferocious playoff push with a fourth straight victory, thumping Washington in Carson, Calif.

The Chargers have won sevenof-nine after an 0-4 start to their relocation season and moved above .500 for the first time since September 2015.

The Chargers stayed atop the AFC West with the Chiefs, their opponents Saturday in Kansas City.

Chiefs 26, Raiders 15 — Kareem Hunt ran for 116 yards and a touchdown and host Kansas City shut down Derek Carr and the Oakland offense to snap a fourgame losing streak.

Alex Smith threw for 268 yards and Charcandrick West had a touchdown run for the Chiefs.

Cowboys 30, Giants 10 — Dak Prescott threw three touchdown passes and desperate Dallas spoiled Steve Spagnuolo’s debut as interim coach, as well as the return of quarterback Eli Manning to New York’s starting lineup in East Rutherford, N.J.

Manning got a standing ovation, but finished 31-of-46 for 228 yards with two late interceptions.

Panthers 31, Vikings 24 — Jonathan Stewart ran for 103 yards and three touchdowns, and Carolina snapped Minnesota’s eight-game winning streak in Charlotte, N.C.

The Panthers racked up 216 yards on the ground against the league’s No.2 defense to pull even with the Saints atop the NFC South.

Lions 24, Buccaneers 21 — Matthew Stafford passed for 381 yards with an injured throwing hand and set up Matt Prater for a 46yard field goal in the closing seconds as Detroit won in Tampa.

Stafford made his 109th consecutive start despite limited practice with an injured right hand.

Bears 33, Bengals 7 — Rookie Mitchell Trubisky threw for a touchdown and ran for another in his best showing yet, and Chicago ended a five-game losing streak with its most lopsided victory in five years, beating host Cincinnati.

Cardinals 12, Titans 7 — Phil Dawson kicked four secondhalf field goals and Arizona shut down Tennessee’s offense nearly all game in Glendale, Ariz.

The Titans fell a game behind AFC South-leading Jacksonville.

Broncos 23, Jets 0 — Denver snapped its longest losing streak since joining the NFL in 1970 with a dominating shutout of visiting New York, which was limited to just 100 yards of offense, 59 on the ground and 41 through the air.

This was the Broncos’ first win in 70 days — and their first shutout since Nov. 20, 2005.
