Arrogant elites did Dems no favors in victory
Democrats can claim the narrowest of victories in deep-red Alabama’s bitter U.S. Senate race, but the truth is Roy Moore was a viable candidate in spite of them — and because of their shameless condescension.
Roy Moore is no deliberative statesman — he’s a wrecking ball with a Southern drawl. At the height of the #MeToo movement, there are serious sexual impropriety allegations against him, as well as a bucketful of other flaws and unforced errors.
Even his nomination to the Republican ticket was cast in the Trump die, a refutation of elites everywhere by blue-collar, working people.
Their religion is Christianity but their real motivation was their determination to punish those who have disrespected their way of life.
It’s hard to imagine that the average Alabamian was excited to go out and vote for Moore, but being condescended to by Hollywood elites is a good way to get them energized.
When Tinseltown celebs on social media converged on Alabama, calling Moore a “racist” and “child molester” and using hashtags like #RightSideOfHistory to lecture them, they didn’t do themselves any favors.
Rapper T.I. put the state on notice, tweeting, “This is incredibly important Alabama. We’re watching!!!”
Comedian Chelsea Handler was right there in the mix: “Please don’t let today, December 12th, be a stain on the history of the United States.”
Ellen DeGeneres: “Alabamians, tomorrow is a big day. If you believe all people are equal, whether they’re gay, straight, black, white, male or female, I hope you’ll get out tomorrow and vote for Doug Jones.”
Actress Debra Messing: “Ok ALABAMA! Moore has given you permission to not vote for him. Search your heart and vote for Character.”
Thank God millionaire celebrities were there to tell the mouth-breathing, NASCAR Walmartians that yesterday was a “big day” and that their own Senate election was “incredibly important.”
Those voices were predictably supplemented by political and media elites from every corner.
It is remarkable how powerful the animus created by the arrogant elites is.
This election, like the presidential, is a symptom of a culture war, not the cause. Trump and Moore are weapons. The left controls the media, but the right has harnessed the energy of the firebrands.
The sheer closeness of this race shows us that the “forgotten America” is demanding something they’ve not received in decades: respect.
